SACRAMENTO -- Four days after 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot and killed by police officers in his grandparents' backyard, protesters gathered inside and outside Sacramento City Hall.
Officers believed Clark had been breaking into cars in the neighborhood and shot him because they say they thought he had a gun. He was only holding a cellphone.
"The death of one more man of color is one too many," Mayor Darrell Steinberg said earlier Thursday before the protest began.
Protesters clogged major downtown Sacramento streets near City Hall as the Thursday commute was about to begin. Earlier in the day, the city urged drivers to find alternate routes.
A large crowd of demonstrators walked onto Interstate 5 at J Street and blocked both sides of the roadway, forcing traffic to stop. Drivers were seen getting out of their stopped cars along the interstate.
In one instance a CHP officer grabbed a lone man and dragged him from the southbound I-5 onto the shoulder of the roadway. Demonstrators told FOX40 the man was not associated with their protest and was later arrested.

I’ve read all the comments on this thread through 0220cdt.
You and several other cop-bashers need to watch a few episodes of LivePD on A&E on Fri-Sat evenings. They cover about 6-7 different areas of the country and how the LEOs interact with the citizens. Most are Sheriff Deputies in Counties in FL, TX, AZ, IN, SC, LA and more.
I will admit that most cities covered do not include Dem-ruled big cities like NYC, LA, CHI, etc., so the chance of viewing corrupt LEOs is unlikely.
It started well before the election.
With current LE camera technology you can see that kind of activity from 3-5 thousand feet. If somebody called in a car prowl it is plausible that they were able to detect him.
I left California for good 40 years ago.

That aside, I’m becoming very uncomfortable with these multiple instances of unarmed people being shot because police are mistaking cell phones for guns.

You cannot expect a cop to wait until fired upon before responding
Probably not in every circumstance, but I look at it like we look at war. Generally we must be fired upon first before we as a nation respond.
We are not going to survive as a law abiding nation, if death by cop continues as it is today. How long are people of color going to stand by regardless of right or wrong and see their folks gunned down by poeleece.
Police procedure must change to avoid at all cost, the face to face confrontations that lead to fatal consequences. The idea that as a public servant you have a greater right to return home after work than the one you just shot, is one of the ideas that need to go.
Those who are armed by we the people have a greater responsibility to those they serve, than the law breaker does, and all are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Law enforcement is not judge and jury.

Criminals do shoot police sometimes- hello. If they want to avoid getting shot then don’t do the crime and don’t resist being arrested by them. Not to say all cops are upstanding in character but don’t mess with LEO’s or potentially pay with your life for being a stupid moron.
But....I thought we will be safer when only cops have guns??
