SACRAMENTO -- Four days after 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot and killed by police officers in his grandparents' backyard, protesters gathered inside and outside Sacramento City Hall.
Officers believed Clark had been breaking into cars in the neighborhood and shot him because they say they thought he had a gun. He was only holding a cellphone.
"The death of one more man of color is one too many," Mayor Darrell Steinberg said earlier Thursday before the protest began.
Protesters clogged major downtown Sacramento streets near City Hall as the Thursday commute was about to begin. Earlier in the day, the city urged drivers to find alternate routes.
A large crowd of demonstrators walked onto Interstate 5 at J Street and blocked both sides of the roadway, forcing traffic to stop. Drivers were seen getting out of their stopped cars along the interstate.
In one instance a CHP officer grabbed a lone man and dragged him from the southbound I-5 onto the shoulder of the roadway. Demonstrators told FOX40 the man was not associated with their protest and was later arrested.

A police shooting in a Democrat-run city.
That’s waaacist!
Democrat mayor makes it about color.
Identity politics to the max.
It was a “tool bar” first. They later decided that it was a phone.
The foot cops muted their body cams during the chase. One actually said something along the lines of “Go mute.”, or something simular. Cameras then when mute.
I used to live near Sacramento (now quite happily in a nicely "red" state).
I miss the California of 30 years ago. I do not miss the Cali of the new millennium. At all.
Too much crime, trash, ickiness, drug gangs, multicultural anti-traditional-Americanism.
People are now rude and creepy, compared to what we knew just a few decades ago. I hope Cali can recover so Californians can stay there and keep from ruining other states.
Lawd! Deez pohleece oura killin’ oura chil’ren! Lawd stop deez pohleece and pray for oura kidz!
Liberal CA is like the 60s South.
Not to worry, they’ll find a way to make it Trump’s fault.
Why?
Couldn’t they have shot him with ten tazers, a tranquilizer gun, an African game net, a BB gun, some rock salt, driven him into a trip rope/net etc?
Something less than gunning him down?
Using lethal force for allegedly “breaking into cars” seems a little harsh.
Unless he fires a shot.
He was apparently seen by a helicopter breaking into cars and a house nearby.
He had his cell phone in his hand, Police saw something, they thought it was a gun and told him to drop the gun and raise his hands. If he followed orders, dropped the phone and raised his hands, he would not have gotten shot.
They’ve got nothing else to do, what the heck.
bingo, sick to death of bullies with badges
Everything is race to some. This guy was a typical scumbag. No, it does not deserve death by cop but these protestors need to look at the root of why America is rotting and civil society lessening. As a society de-evolves and breaks down, the response from those sworn to protect it becomes much more harsh. Incidentally, I think police training and hiring is grossly inadequate as a whole in America.
The police had been chasing him trying to catch him. He had something in his hands(a cell phone). When ask to show his hands he didnt
He wouldnt have been shot had he not been trying to run from police and then not following directions
"...seen by a helicopter..."
He ran from the police when they first tried to stop him. They caught up with him in the back yard. This guy was no innocent
Precisely
Well, Darrell, get rid of the Oakland imports then,. and their liberal friends that ruined Sacramento
The government in California is more crazy about police matters than in most other states.
