Sometimes we see him as other hotel guests would have seen him: as the tall gambler intent on the video poker machine across the casino floor, or as the customer standing in line in front of you at the gift shop, buying snacks, or as the guy you briefly glance at as he waits for you to get off the elevator polite, unhurried, unmemorable.

The headline as presented in the NYT doesn't convey what the piece is about and this is a major problem with newspapers today. They want to be creative instead of informative.
The headline should have been something like, "Las Vegas Shooter, Stephen Paddock, caught on surveillance video"
The key words and name would jump out at you and you would feel compelled to read the article.
The original headline as written doesn't give enough direct information.
I understand why people change headlines and I really wanted to change this one. If I had I bet the article would have gotten more hits because people would know what the article is actually about.
Video Shows Las Vegas Gunman Gambling, Eating Alone and Filling His Suite With Guns
Which is different than yours:
He Gambles. He Tips Staff. He Eats Alone. All the While, Hes Stocking His Vegas Suite With Guns.
Did the New York Slimes change it?
I copied and pasted the article on a doc. file which looks exactly like this:
He Gambles. He Tips Staff. He Eats Alone. All the While, Hes Stocking His Vegas Suite With Guns.

That's the original NYT headline I read, copied, and posted.
I did a search and that headline didn't appear which is why I posted the story.
Someone at the NYT must have noticed how their original headline didn't convey what the article was about and changed it.
And as I said, I thought the headline was so bad it should be changed.
Okay, I often wondered if the engaged in that practice of changing their own headlines on articles to get more hits.
CIA? FBI? Something else?
Not often mentioned, but there was going to be a gun show at the hotel. I wonder if he was known to get involved in gun shows? It could explain all of his guns.

You will find multiple links that show the original headline.
Here are just a few:

Interestingly when you look at the search results for the original headline I posted from the NYT you will find a link to the NYT included in the search results but when you go to the link you will find the changed headline.
I stuck to the FR rule to only post the original headline.
It was the NYT that altered their own headline.
