The suspected serial bomber who killed two people and terrorized Austin, Texas, for three harrowing weeks was killed in a dramatic confrontation with police overnight Wednesday, authorities said.
The suspect, identified by police early Wednesday as a 24-year old male, was killed near the motel he was traced to by authorities using surveillance footage from a Federal Express drop-off store and cell phone triangulation technology, according to The Austin American-Statesman.
The man, whose name was not released, died after fleeing the motel in a car, with police hot on his tail. He drove into a ditch, sparking the fatal confrontation.
"We wanted this to come to a peaceful resolution tonight," said Austin Police Chief Brian Manley. "However, we were not afforded that opportunity when he started to drive away."
Police said the man detonated two package bombs as police closed in, firing at him. It was not immediately clear whether he died from the bombs or shots fired by police. One officer was knocked back by the blasts, but none were seriously hurt.

But whose face would you look for? Did he look like this?
I don’t know any 24 year olds that have skill sets to make bombs.
I’m guessing he is ex military.
Wrote itself.
Attention bombers. If you flee from police, blow yourself up, THEN get shot.
What, exactly is your point?
That is what we are saying. What no John Happyface Doe? Because if he were TRULY white they would have had it out there the second after he bl3w himself up.
Gov. Abbott was just on FOX - not ex-military. 2 roommates in Pflugerville cooperating, no job. Social media accounts intact, although bomber had ‘gone dark’ - made them harder for outsiders to access them.
Unless this guy was a register Republican or confirmed NRA member this case will get another crack Sessions DOJ investigation. The conclusion will be as clear as swamp mud.
With the label on the intact bomb they would know exactly when and where it was dropped off
Good thing he wasn’t smart.
Good thinking. He is identified via facial recognition, then all the cellphone carriers have to identify all the phones active on nearby cells at the time. But, still, they have already ID’d a suspect to look for. How?
Or, being not too bright, maybe he made it a lot easier for them — he put his own real name and address on the shipping form.
Not much expertise needed to make a bomb, complete an electric loop and you have boom! Parts available at any hardware store or Walmart.
First laugh for the day. :)
Well they have the person who delivered the packages.
they assume he detonated them
there may be more to this story...
No the GPs runs even if the phone is turned off, and so does the gps in your car. You are always tracked
Not likely, they need that to link him to the GOP.
You mean like these two?
The tracking number on the package that didn't go boom from yesterday would be my guess. Tracked to the exact time/place of drop-off. Narrows down the video image timeframe to a precise time, and they've got their best potential suspect standing there dropping it off. Other video outside the store likely captured the vehicle/plates.
Congratulations.
You are now under FBI investigation. :)
“Police say they found the dead man unarmed...”
Well, he’d definitely been DIS-armed.
There is some excellent detective work not being disclosed here. They had to run through thousands of hours of footage at all the FedEx stores nearby. How did they know the guy on the video was the suspect? Was he dropping off a package of the right estimated dimensions or weight?
_____________
are you joking? with time and date which they would have it takes moments to find footage, they know exactly when every package arrives into their hands
recently I had to take something back to Walmart without a receipt. customer service went into a backroom and confirmed that I purchased the object last week on Tuesday. they had a picture of me purchasing it and gave me store credit.
