Car 1, Human 0
Ban cars? Ban driverless cars? They have no constitutional rights, correct? Who has liability? Why did the car kill the human?!

I am flabbergasted they are allowing these on streets anywhere. Who paid off whom to make this possible???

The W$billion dollar settlement is what will kill autonomous cars. The deep pockets are the software developers and car companies - not individuals.

You serious that the first murder by a driverless car is not Breaking News or Top News?! It doesn't involve Trump yet, but I'm sure they will find a way to blame him for it by the end of the day.
This is big news. It could kill driverless cars (should in the near term), it raises questions questions about liability, and so much more.
Alas, no Trump.

I’m waiting for one to hit me. Would no longer dream about hitting a big Power Ball or Mega Millions jackpot. If I didn’t survive, my wife would never have to worry. It would be best if I could still play golf after the incident, though.

My prediction:
The investigation will conclude that the dead pedestrian (or cyclist) was at fault.
Über will be held blameless, and the tests will resume.

Good. People like to drive their own car anyway. Really dumb idea.

As I have been predicting for some time now, self-driving cars will not survive First Contact with the American Tort Bar.

The answer from the Left will be to mandate GPS chips implanted in all humans so the robot cars will know you’re there and not hit you. Once the chips are inserted, other important data will be included such as your bank balances, whether you own guns, etc.

So far no indication of fault, nor that a human driver could have avoided the accident.
Will they test the fuel alcohol content to determine if drunk driving was a factor?

Was it the fault of the car or the fault of laws of physics?
If a pedestrian steps in front of a moving car, it can not stop instantly even if the robot driver reacts much quicker than a human.
It will be interesting to see what the investigation reveals.

It is likely the first pedestrian fatality caused by a self-driving car.And not the last.

I thought all of these test cars still had humans behind the wheel to take over in case the AI makes an error. Why didn’t the human intervene to avoid the pedestrian?

Either Skynet is forming or it was just an unfortunate accident because all the information the car received led it to the conclusion the least harmful action at the moment was to hit the woman.
