“Gun culture?” Some of those northeastern metropolitan folks are way out there in their conveyed thoughts. They should get out more.

But yes, firearms are common tools in small towns and rural parts of the Midwest. And we don’t fear our neighborly neighbors, who also have firearms.

Maybe some of those big city folks in anti-second-amendment states should avoid firearms, though, until they’re sure that they have healthier perspectives. Some of them apparently suffer from their imaginations and impulses running a little wild. Maybe it’s the recycled water. Or maybe the rats in those cities are carrying some kind of brain parasite.

Interesting that everyone - left or right - in all these arguments ignores the constitutional purpose, which was well understood in its day though rather understated in the text of the Second Amendment. They never mention it.

It certainly has nothing to do with hunting or even personal protection, or even community protection. It is there simply to facilitate a revolt against a government turned despotic.

Rural America? When we lived in Long Island back in the late 50’s, my Brother took his .22 Rifle to School twice a week.

He was in the Gun Club and there was a Shooting Range in the Basement of the School. He walked to School with the Gun slung over his shoulder.

There wasn’t as much as a raised eyebrow along his route.

Then we moved to Suburban Southern CA. Not a Tractor in sight.

His line about, Dem’s wanting gun control and Republicans wanting “control, period”, is utterly disgusting. Republicans, sane thinking people, in general, want people to have ‘self control’ and be held accountable for their actions. I live in a rural county east of Kansas City. My house is on five acres of land. My nearest neighbors are about a quarter mile to the east and about the same distance to the west. The sheriffs department will have, maybe, three or four deputies on patrol for the entire county at any given time. So yes, I need to depend on myself for protection. I need to drive off the occasional coyote or take care of the occasional nuisance animal. I own a handgun for self defense and a .22 rifle and shotgun for general shooting. That’s not necessarily gun culture, just common sense.
