I see your point, but it is my contention that a 14 year old cannot enter into a binding legal contract in this instance. Would the rental company have rented it to her had they known she was 14? No. They won’t rent her a car, she isn’t allowed to vote, consent to sex, join the military, purchase a firearm.
Chucky will let her order a pizza online, that’s about it.
It’s illegal sure, but credit card orders are taken by phone, or online, all the time....hence, that’s how she got away with it.
My point was, just because it was illegal—the illegal behavior (fraud, in impersonating her mother, I suppose), and since it was their child—her parents are liable for the bill.
This is why real estate sales require a settlement—with lawyers and witnesses, and recording it all with the courthouse....
Rentals, don’t require all that, by law—and can be done...just with a credit card (in certain circumstances).
