MIAMI (CBSMiami) Florida International Universitys massive new pedestrian bridge collapsed Thursday afternoon in West Miami-Dade.
The bridge, located at 109th Ave and 8th Street, collapsed on a number of cars.
There are reports of numerous people injured in the collapse. At least one person was taken as a trauma alert to the hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The 950-ton bridge went up on Saturday. It was then lowered into its final position, just west of 109th Avenue that day.
The main span was built next to Southwest 8th Street.
The guy on ABC was saying this job was rushed and things were not done properly.
Gee, ya think?
...both firms involved had numerous safety issues (fines) violations where workers were injured
This bridge is not just someplace to someplace else, Rosenberg said.

About to become SOME NEW KIND OF SOMEPLACE ELSE. I guess they can tear it down now and build a memorial there.
[Can’t wait to hear some self-righteous @$$ talk about how it is about globull-warming, and since the bridge collapsed on evil cars that pollute we should all realize that this is justified.]
Political connections probably explain this:
Now the Miami-based firm, owned by six brothers, is playing a bit part in a national saga: the investigation of President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.
Here ya go.
y=mx+b
y-b=mx
x=(y-b)/m
I didn’t see any shoring in any photos or videos of the bridge when it was installed. Someone must have figured that the structure was self supporting under just its own weight - incorrectly.
Scotty rules!
You are correct. The bridge supports do not appear to have been constructed yet. Yet some idiot decided to put an unsupported concrete span over an active highway.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? These things aren’t supposed to last forever. They got 100 hours of trouble-free service from this.
IOW, if you want your bridge to support up to 10,000 people, you design and build it to support 25,000 people?
Yep he said something about the crane doing something above the bridge. Something about they were tightening the cables. He was not very clear. Yet he presented himself as someone who was involved with the bridge project. Someone in the know. He said they never should have been doing what they were doing with traffic underneath.
Thanks for the slope equation. What type of engineering discipline do you practice? I’m Professional Engineer as well, Civil, but stay away from structural.
Wonder if any of that substandard Chinese steel was used in that bridge?
It was a new design, no steel.............
Interesting that Sen Nelson of Floriduh acts like a complete blithering idiot in the Senate and yet he can get in front of a TV camera giving out unconfirmed information so fast he leaves skid marks! Schumer better watch out..,.he has competition!/S
There's a truck under the mess that has a company logo on the door ... Structural something. It's crushed.
