My son is at Navy OCS right now and because he is NUPOC, he ecpects to be on a sub. He is hoping to get on a fast attack sub rather than a boomer. Do we have slow attack subs?

I watched the documentary of reinhold messner attempting to cross the North Pole from Asia to Canada March 1995
It was his last Uber risk adventure and he’s pretty much the Mcdaddy of mountaineering etc
They had to be rescued cut to the danger of huge slabs of ice just pushing up from everywhere like an instantaneous Terrain of Hoodoos out of the frozen ocean leaving them perched on ledges high up or stuck in a deep pool on top of the ice pack

A question for our submariner freepers. I’m confused about the number for these subs. Why would a later model sub, the USS Connecticut (SSN 22), have an earlier number than the older sub USS Hartford (SSN 768)?
