Saudi Prince Bandar bin Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud passed away on Monday, March 12, the Royal Court announced in a statement.
His funeral prayers will be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah following Asr (afternoon) regular prayer on Tuesday, March 13, the official Saudi News Agency (SPA) reported.
UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of condolences to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Prince Bandar bin Khalid’s death, official news agency WAM reported.
Similar cables were also dispatched by the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

This Prince was popular with the rest of the royal family, and so could have been a competitor with the crown prince to be the next king. Not any more.
Alternatively, he might have been trying to escape from having to sign over control of his businesses to the crown prince, who has been taking over all the big businesses from the other princes - even from folks outside of the royal family, like the BinLaden Group.
The crown prince (MBS) is taking over all the levers of power and wealth. He is changing the Saudi system from a broad Saudi Clan affair, to a strict line of succession from father to son. The old system was unsustainable. There were over a thousand princes and princesses, all of whom expected to live fabulously wealthy lives from the State treasury. In another generation, it would have been over ten thousand - even a hundred thousand.
