West Virginia Republican Gov. Jim Justice says he has fired Secretary of Education and the Arts Gayle Manchin ahead of his decision on approved legislation to reorganize the agency.
Justice announced the move in a news release Monday. Manchin is a former state school board president and is the wife of Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin.

Justice recently negotiated a raise for striking teachers. And U.S. Senator Manchin is up for re-election. According to Ted Cruz, in an interview with Steve Crowder, Manchin voted for the tax cut bill but flipped his vote after pressure from other Democrats. I think West Virginians might vote him out of office if Republicans had a better candidate than Blankenship.

IIRC, teachers get a 5% raise.
Q: Are taxpayers getting a 5% increase in their incomes.. ?

The Manchins have been in WV politics since 1982. Manchin won Byrd’s seat. WVU gave his daughter, Heather Bresch, a fake masters degree. She’s the head of the pharmaceutical company that’s making a killing from Epipens. Time for the Manchins to retire.

I know we're not! Having moved here from a major city, it was difficult not to stick my head out the window and yell at the teachers standing around our tiny hometown with their signs. But everyone knows my husband from work, so it's probably wise to keep my opinions to myself.

The announcement was made at the Robert C. Byrd hall, of the Robert C. Byrd Memorial Capitol building, located at 101 Robert C. Byrd Blvd. After the announcement invited guest will go to the Robert C. Byrd dinning hall in the Robert C. Byrd Cafeteria, for coffee and deserts, before taking the Robert C. Byrd Expressway to the Robert C. Byrd Terminal at the Robert C. Byrd International Airport.

Twice a day, I drive by the NH Public Employee Union building.
They have one of those signs out front where the number changes every day, you know, “240 Days Without A Contract”, the next day, “241 days...”, etc, etc.
The thing is, lots of guys drive by that sign thinking, “31 YEARS without a contract”
What makes them so special that an average working guy is going to care whether or not the public employees have a contract, reasoning (correctly) that if and when they get a contract, it will simply be screwing the rest of us over.

WV is a southern Appalachian state and local politics run toward Democrat, state level too, typically. They flipped back in the Nixon era along with the rest of the south, but not from Democrat to Republican, they went the other way after having been staunch Republicans from the Civil War onward. Their going Republican once again is a fairly recent phenomenon in the greater scheme of things. Mountain people are very traditional but that doesn’t always translate into conservative Republican as we understand it. That WV is as red as it is today is solely due to the very sad state of their economy under Obama. If they’d have been doing well the union streak would have come back to the fore.
