In the post-Parkland hysteria, President Trump directed the Department of Justice to perform some regulatory legerdemain where bump fire stocks are concerned. The ATF had long ago passed on the stocks, deeming them perfectly legal accessories for semi-automatic rifles. Now, in a Saturday morning move apparently meant to fly under the radar . . .
The U.S. Department of Justice formally submitted a regulation on Saturday to ban bump stocks, a modification to high-capacity rifles that lets them fire like an automatic weapon.
President Donald Trump signed a memorandum in February directing the department to make the regulatory change, which must now be approved by the Office of Management and Budget before it is published and subject to a commentary period.
Nothing to worry about though that will never get through Congress! Au contraire, mon frere.
The move does not require congressional approval, allowing the administration to side-step what could have been insurmountable pressure from pro-gun groups such as the National Rifle Association that have worked to erode changes in firearm laws in the wake of mass shootings in Florida and Nevada.
Its no biggie, though. Really, now many people own, or even want a bump fire stock? This wont affect me!
Think again. If the DOJ can use regulatory fiat to bring their ban hammer down on bump fire stocks, magically deeming them machine guns, whats to stop this or, more likely, some future administration from deciding that high-capacity 30-round magazines are also unacceptable modifications that facilitate unnecessary rates of fire? Or lighter, drop-in triggers? Anything that could plausibly be argued to increase a guns standard rate of fire.
The NRA was on board with regulating bump fire stocks in theory, but hadnt signed on to this particular move. This sets a terrible regulatory precedent that will almost surely be expanded and abused again down the road. Will the NRA sue? Will SAF or the GOA?
We havent been able to get our mitts on the new DOJ regulatory language yet, but will publish it when its available. Stay tuned.
Don’t worry. “Our” side is in charge. This is ok. It’s only really really really bad when Democrats ban our stuff.
And this will, of course, stop the next mass murderer, because like, it just will.

Could there be a silver lining here? Does this open up the possibility of shredding the Hughes Amendment?
You have to vote for the Republican who has taken away gun rights, or we will get the Democrat who wants to take away gun rights.
Machine gun? Fast?
Jerry Charles Miculek, Jr.
Fire eight shots from a revolver on a single target. S&W Model 627 V-Comp revolver 1.00 sec.
(And he did other faster stuff.)
This would be 480 rounds per minute. From a revolver. Ban them.
Ed McGivern
He set another record on September 13, 1932, shooting five rounds from a double-action revolver at 15 feet in 2/5 of a second, and covering the group with his hand.
I calculate this at 750 rounds per minute. Again, a too-fast revolver.
On this issue, I disagree with the president. I fully support the 2nd Ammendment. The President sets policy; his cabinet implements it.
Your previous comment referenced Jeff (Sessions). I’m just pointing out that Trump said he was going to do this and now has. He can do the same with respect to appointing Special Counsel.
When this man wants something done, he makes sure his people do it. This is a perfect example. If he truly wants a Special Counsel, he will get one.
UNTIL THIS HAPPENS AND WE AS IN THE US EXPOSE THE POLICIES THAT PERMITTED THOSE KILLINGS TO OCCUR THIS WILL CONTINUE
SHAME ON THOSE AR 15S
FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE PARKSIDE SCHOOL
BLAME GUNS
NOT
PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT POLICIES FAILURES THEY
MUST BE HIDDEN
The inability to counter this perverted (they call progressive) agenda created by the democratic party ( in name only) has its goose stepping adherents in the media left make it up as guns and the NRA garbage through their swill mills. When it should be contested by GOP state and federal legislators who should be demanding investigative hearings exposing policy failures
DONT MENTION THIS
Besides examining the conduct ( cops told not to enter other dept called and does those cops disciplined because they did) and arrangements of the Broward County Sheriff’s Dept made with this school district performance failures due to policy. A dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents at Parkside were reported after the selection of Obamas Chicago friend as school superintendent occurred which was publicly acclaimed.
Because that school district was receiving large grant money from Obamas Attorney General because of those results. That many critics claimed encouraged criminal activity. Which should require Trump Administration US Attorney General beside find out why when the FBI knew that Cruz who should not been able to purchase weapons did. And review these grant programs instituted by the previous Obama administration.

And 1984. I read it often the last eight years. I didnt think I would have to take it out again. Not so soon.
I have no interest in acquiring a bump stock. I even think they’re pretty stupid since it makes an otherwise accurate and economical rifle a high expenditure, spray and pray piece of crap. But I absolutely do not want them banned because if they can be banned by DOJ fiat, then Katie bar the door. I am as disappointed in my POTUS today as I am in my Governor (Scott). Who needs gun grabbing Democrats when we have gun grabbing Republicans. I am somewhat fearful for the future.
This would be a good day not to visit one of my favorite sites on the net: AR15.com. They’ll need a cooling off period before the invective settles down to a readable level.
Presuming thus goes through, President Trump will have implemented more gun control in his first year and a half than Obama did in eight years of office.
Oh yeah, I know.
I am extremely displeased with our brilliant president on this matter.
Pointless, stupid and dangerous.
... The NRA was on board with regulating bump fire stocks in theory ...
There was a time, not so long ago, that the NRA would oppose every regulation, rule or law on guns. The theory was that the left was incremental and welcomed every regulation, no matter how small; The NRA position that even regulating the box that ammo came in needed to be opposed.
I miss those days.
If a dim were to have done this the thread would be ready for war.
Must ban....FINGERS!
. The attorney general does not get to make law in this country. Wheres the memorandum directing the DOJ to issue a new regulation that would ban abortion? How about banning sanctuary cities? I can play this game all day.
Im at work, and cant read much of this.
Is there anything in this about binary triggers?
That’s nothing, under Obama DOJ Reclassified illegal immigrants as democratic voters.
It is incrementalism. It is the frog in the pot of cold water. If you were dealing with honest and straightforward people that would be one thing. But these people are duplicitous liars with an agenda. It is not an agenda with your welfare in mind.
President Donald Trump did this, not Jeff Sessions.
Let's summarize:
In Florida we elected a Republican Governor and a Republican majority in the State House and Senate. We were promised that an open carry bill would sail through and be signed by the Gov. Scott. Instead we got a law preventing those under 21 from purchasing any firearm, a statewide 3 day waiting period to purchase a firearm and a ban on "Bump Stocks".
At the Federal level we elected a Republican President and a Republican majority in the House and Senate. We were promised no new infringements on the 2nd Amendment,Concealed Carry Reciprocity across all 50 states and passage of The Hearing Protection Act (removing silencers from the NFA ) So what have we got so far: a pending ban on "Bump Stocks" and hints of more restrictions to come.
Now just for laughs let's compare the Obama administration (and no I'm not defending him it's just an observation). We were promised the end was here. Semi autos would be banned, high capacity mags would be banned, registration of firearms, you name it. So what did we get with Obama: "Bump Stocks" were made legal by his ATF. He also signed a bill making it legal to conceal carry in National Parks. He also signed a bill allowing firearms in checked baggage on Amtrak Trains reversing a ban put in effect after 9/11.
Now WTF is wrong with this picture. I feel like I've slipped into an alternate universe.
