Gunman, 3 hostages reported dead at California veterans home [Yountville]

An armed man took three hostages during an "active shooter situation" at a California veterans home Friday afternoon, a fire official said.
Earlier, it emerged the veterans home was on lockdown after reports of shots fired.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to the Veterans Home of California in Yountville around 10:45 a.m. local time and a shelter-in-place order was issued.

The Yountville Veteran's home is the largest veterans’ home in the US. Some 1,000 aged or disabled veterans (both men and women) or World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom now live at the home.

If anyone’s wondering, Yountville is in “Wine Country,” not far north of San Francisco and fairly close to the city of Napa. This is an area of vineyards, wineries, restaurants, and the like, and if you’ve gone far enough north into the valley, you may have passed by the area.

From the full article: “The Napa Valley Register reported an armed gunman, dressed in black with body armor, entered the building and may have taken hostages.” Definitely sounds like a “gone postal” or maybe a “going after an ex” scenario.

I visit the California Veterans Home in Chula Vista, CA. I love going over there and having lunch with those guys. There are a lot of World War II vets there. Real heroes. What could possibly be worse than shooting up a veterans home?
