Sounds like the sort of thing a BMW driver would do.
Considering this was NJ, the odds are he was a democrat, so in that case no loss.
I was driving home from the Indy 500 one year and a tornado went through the southside of Indy just minutes before I arrived. The place was a shambles and debris all over the roads. As I was driving trying to find an unblocked road, I saw at the last second a downed power line handing over the road at windshield level. I stopped just in time. I got out of the car and was going to toss my rubber floor mat over the line to make it more visible so no driver would accidentally drive into it. Right then a cop shows up. He gets out of his car and walks over and reaches to grab the cable and pull it out of the way. I screamed at him “Stop! Don’t do that! That’s a live power line”. He jerked back when he realized what I said just inches from the line. The he gets all mad a me for being there I guess and yelling at him. I probably saved his life and he takes an attitude because he didn’t get to be one in charge. Oh well.
Pretty much blows that whole “Faraday Cage” thing out of the water.
I would have thought that the tires on the truck would have insulated him. I’ve read stories where people have done that and were told to stay in the vehicle and not to step out on the ground.
Crane electrocution, not even touching powerline

watch the whole video.
I’ve driven over live wires before with no effect. (not on purpose. It was minutes after the wire fell and I didn’t see it until after)
But this one looks like it may have been an exposed wire the may have snagged the bottom of the car.
I would guess that had it just been rubber tires making contact, it would be OK.
Remember one thing, no matter what anyone tells you:
EVERY WIRE IS A LIVE WIRE.
...about 20 miles northeast of me...
#1...ignored road closed sign
#2...electrician, I know better so there attitude
#3....highway portion of road is 95% exits and entrance ramps no addresses...short cut
#4....POOF!
A shocking story.
this is so wrong.
the guy should be given a second chance.
Don’t be a mean grump.
he didn’t think the law of electircity (sic) applied to him.
Etc. . . . . . . . Ad nauseam. / sarc
Must have been high tension wires - I’ve seen a downed wire arcing and jumping and banging away - nothing to fool with.
How terrible. Pass on this story to others.
Shocking.
