National Rifle Association memberships surged in the wake of the anti-NRA protests and media bias that followed the February 14 Florida school shooting.
The Daily Mail reports that Google searches for NRA membership rose 4,900 percent since the Florida attack. That rise occurred at a time when many Democrats, media personalities, and Hollywood celebrities were denouncing the NRA as causal in the shooting that took 17 lives in a gun-free zone.
The Hollywood attitude was epitomized by writer-director Judd Apatow, actress Mia Farrow, and comedian Chelsea Handler, all of whom responded to the Florida school attack by calling out the NRA to drive a wedge between voters and pro-gun legislators.

I’m sure membership is up significantly, but that has got to be a type. Probably more like 4.9%.
I got my welcome message from Wayne LaPierre today. And I suspect the NRA has been behind the recent rash of calls from some toll-free number. Since I don’t answer the phone unless I know who it is, they’ll get tired of that crap. Or it could be roofing salesmen...
Type-O? LOL! Yeah, Hawkins is usually on the ball but I’m thinkin’ he dropped it on that number. Even 4.9% would be okay.
Or rocket mortgage wanting you to take a cash out refi. ;-)
Searches for; interest in;perhaps even monthly membership applications.
Not total membership.
In a roughly two week period 500,000 new members. That would be 5000% more than usual.
Contrast that with last night’s anti-gun Oscars telecast that crashed to an all-time viewing low of 18.5 in the Nielsen ratings.
Americans prefer the NRA by a wide-margin over Hollywood hectoring them owning guns is evil.
Clearly, no contest.
Ditto on the welcome message. We screen our incoming calls by having an answering machine announce we are hoping the caller will leave a message. We listen to the response from the machine and if it is spam we ignore it, if it is somebody we want to talk to we pick up the phone. Works great. Our robo calls have dropped at least 80% and that is no hype, from about 20 a day to at most 4. It is a bit of an inconvience for the callers we want but they all know why it is so.
They’re only talking about Google searches, not new membership sign-ups.
Just as some dumb celebrity was recently donating to planned barrenhood in a well known conservative’s name (can’t remember who), I think I shall join the NRA in “honor” of Chelsey Handler.
I guess Google will have to adjust its search algorithm.
This is embarrassing!
I don’t think they do monthly memberships. My son and grandson joined last week.
I’m not sure it is incorrect. Membership has been holding at around 5 million for years and half a million joined in two weeks. Maintaining 5 million was likely under 1,000 per week and most of those were at events such as gun shows.
Why not both?
Just joined day before yesterday (never wanted to be on any government list), Life Membership.
Getting kinda long in the tooth now so probably wont be that long.
Still just got tired of the crap.
Give them a fake phone # but your real email.

Renewed membership and threw in extra cash.
