Ives defends her record from [IL RINO guv] Rauner attacks
Bureau County Republican News ^ | Feb. 21, 2018 | Jim Dunn

State Rep. Jeanne Ives, a Wheaton Republican, pulled no punches regarding her disdain for incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner at an appearance in Princeton Saturday evening.

Speaking to supporters who gathered at the Red Apple Restaurant prior to the annual Lincoln Day Dinner, Ives said Rauner isn’t telling the truth about the budget, about his record, or about hers in multiple attack mailings sent to GOP primary voters.

“What he’s telling you is a complete lie, but this is to be expected from a man who lied to a cardinal about taxpayer funding of abortion,” Ives said.

Ives is a three-term state representative who launched her challenge to Rauner after the governor signed a bill to allow taxpayer funding of abortions in Illinois after first telling Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich that he wouldn’t sign it.

Ives billed herself as “the true conservative” running for governor.

“I went to Springfield to fight for taxpayers, I’m still fighting for taxpayers, and I’m now fighting Bruce Rauner,” Ives said.

The West Point graduate, holder of a degree in economics, and mother of five knocked down claims made by the Rauner campaign in various mailers that, she said, cost Rauner half a million dollars for each separate mailing.

Ives said people want answers to the issues raised by Rauner.

“Well, Jeanne, it says that you voted for the tax increase. No, I didn’t. I did not support the tax increase. I did not support that. He’s distorting my comments from the Crain’s editorial, …” she said.

“He’s the one lying about it (the tax increase) which is fully on display in his budget address, where he needed every dime of that tax increase, and he used it all,” Ives said.

Ives said a different Rauner mailing distorted her vote on a property tax freeze that was contained in a bill put forward by Rauner’s nemesis, Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan.

“I’m the only one who had the courage to call the scam what it was and vote no,” Ives said.

She also said Rauner’s contention that Ives took union campaign contributions and that she supported Madigan were untrue.

“I’ve never met with Madigan in my life,” Ives said.

“I just asked him (Madigan) to resign in a floor speech on Tuesday or Wednesday” after a Madigan staffer was accused of sexual harassment, Ives said.

Rauner’s anti-Madigan rhetoric has not helped to foster a working relationship to solve the state’s problems, she contended.

“If he’s going to blame everything on Mike Madigan and not himself, then that’s shameful,” Ives said.

“Look, this is the governor who has said he’s not in charge and he’s ceded all control to Mike Madigan ‘cause he never acted like he’s in charge,” she said.

“It’s a dirty race. Not on our side. Not on our side. We’re not getting dirty. We’re speaking the truth,” Ives said.

Ives said Rauner’s lack of leadership has failed “a state that’s on the verge of bankruptcy.”

Ives received support from Republican James Marter of Oswego, who attended the event and who is challenging U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger in the GOP primary for 16th District U.S. House nomination.

“She is the only person who can fix our problems in Springfield,” Marter said.

Ives urged supporters to “keep pushing; we’ve got 30 days,” and to promote her candidacy among their friends and acquaintances.

“You have a choice here. You guys have a choice,” she said.

“This is a pivotal, once-in-a-generation election where you can change the trajectory of this state. But trust me, it’s either, we’re going all in for a taxpayer revolution, or you’re going to see the slow going-out-of-business sale here in the state of Illinois.”

This woman is a sacrificial lamb. There is simply no way she’s going to pick up votes in Chicago. IL is so far gone down that its best to advocate splitting the state in half.

"...its best to advocate splitting the state in half."

We once had the most incredible and united country in the world even after a bloody civil war. Now thanks to the plague of liberalism we will never be that country again. As it stands I believe we could theoretically have 75 states. Every state enslaved by a big city or enslaved by a criminal state capital could all be broken apart especially California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and many others. The problem still exists of the dumb ass American libtard voter who moves state to state like cockroachlocust.

Ives has a crap record when it comes to voting against organized state worker labor unions, the main reason Illinois is such a broken state. She will never get my vote.

I got that thin paperback in the mail. Put it right in the circular file after I saw Chris Cleveland’s name on it “Chicago Republican Party” is an oxymoron.

I’ve been here for years, no welcome necessary. I plan to vote for Rauner. Anybody else is free to support anyone they want. I bear no delusions that Rauner is a perfect candidate. I didn’t like several things he did but he did, at least, push the legislature to make cuts and deal with the structural spending problems the state has. If he hadn’t been stabbed in the back by 15 republicans who voted to raise taxes we might have gotten real reform. Just my two cents.

Been here for years? 9/2017?\

Curious? I don’t understand what you are talking about...”he did, at least, push the legislature to make cuts and deal with the structural spending problems the state has.”

Didn’t Rauner sign bill for state abortion funding? and Didn’t Rauner sign bill that made IL a sanctuary state? Did he even try to veto? From what I recall, he never came out and encouraged the citizenry to pressure legislators to not support ths stuff.

Sorry, tho I may vote for him if Ives does not primary him, he had a chance.

Had to make a new login. Lost my old one. Years.

” I don’t understand what you are talking about...”he did, at least, push the legislature to make cuts and deal with the structural spending problems the state has.”

Last June and early July the state of Illinois government was shut down because Rauner refused to sign a tax hike bill written entirely by corrupt House Speaker Mike Madigan (D. southwest side of Chicago) and Rauner vetoed said bill. 15 Illinois legislature republicans stabbed Rauner in the back and overrode his veto hiking taxes. If they had not we likely would have gotten structural reforms to the way Illinois spends our tax dollars.

Now we have to try again in the next budget no matter who is governor. Ives has said she will not immediately repeal the state income tax hike as Rauner has said he will.

As I said before, I bear no delusions that Rauner is a perfect candidate but he’s our only hope for structural spending and budget reform, the things I care about most. Have a nice night, Allan.

Why all the fuss?

The next Governor of Illinois will be a DemoncRat, just like the last Republican RINO Senator Mark Kirk lasted only One Term.

Why would any Democrats Vote for a RINO who acts like a DemoncRat when they can have the real thing?

One could say the same thing about Ives and state employee unions. Why hire her when they can have a Pritzker or Kennedy?

Boy does that bring back memories. I carried Pete Bensinger by 2 votes in the 12th pct in the old 12th ward . In his obit when he passed on there was no mention of him even running for mayor.

Rauner is a limousine liberal from the North Shore who will never beat Kim Jung Pritzker - why vote for the phony when you can get the real thing? Rauner could have thrown a bone to Illinois conservatives by vetoing the abortion funding bill or refusing to go along with protected status for illegals, but his loyalty to Planned Parenthood and their ilk wouldn’t even allow him to do that, so he figured he could get by without the conservatives in his base. He won’t.

Ives is far from perfect, but at least she’s not a plutocrat elitist, which is what Illinois will end up with in November even if fat-@ss Pritzker were to drop dead during the campaign; those remaining Illinois residents who still work and pay taxes can look forward to watching the implosion in their rearview mirrors as they move to Hoosierville and CheeseCountry.

Look at Rauner's face after getting crushed by Ives.

About all Rauner could do to defend his failed term was to keep muttering Mike Madagan in his empty replies to Ives withering attacks.

Watch the whole thing for yourself here and see that Jeanne knows what she is talking about and Rauner seems utterly stupefied.

Gov. Rauner drinks chocolate milk to demonstrate his commitment to diversity. Chocolate milk!? Really we are on the other side of the looking glass here in Illinois.

Bruce sure Kirked himself good but remember he won on the same ballot with Durbin so the rank and file union automatons could have been given marching orders to vote for him but he has been abandoned by his already shallow base. Bruce had his chance and was a miserable failure, he should just drop out and be happy that he isn't going directly to jail like several of our past Governors.

Illinois is the tip of the spear in the fight against big government tyranny, the battle is here, good men and women are in the fight, come on in and get some.

I watched the whole thing as it happened. Was that before or after she said “He’s picking on Mike Madigan again?” That’s what sealed my vote. Ives is bought and paid for by the state worker labor unions. It’s clear as day to anyone who even pays a little bit of attention. She ALWAYS votes with labor, Allan. That’s what sewed my vote against her up.

If you’re making a Rauner commercial, you can cast the quote “He’s picking on Mike Madigan again” as Ives support for Madigan (which is frankly silly). If you actually listen to the debate (or even her intonation in the commercials), it’s clear what she’s saying is that Rauner is using Madigan as his excuse for his - Rauner’s - own failings.

And Rauner has enough money to play that line over and over again so residents of a state detached from reality enough to vote for idiots like Blagojevich and Durbin will eventually come to believe that somebody like Ives would support somebody like Madigan. I guess some folks can be persuaded of that level on silliness, but I suspect most who espouse that position are just happy to play Rauner’s game.

It is amusing to see how practically unlimited buckets of money can be used to make even the most ridiculous of charges almost credible. And if this race does degenerate to Rauner/Pritzker, the amount of North Shore money going into high-priced deceit will be almost amusing to watch.
