The Florida Senate rejected a proposal to ban assault weapons, and voted for a measure to arm some teachers, weeks after 17 people were killed in the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.
An amendment that would have banned assault weapons attached to a wider bill failed on Saturday in a largely party-line vote, in response to the Feb. 14 killing of 14 students and three faculty at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Parkland.
The vote was 20-17 against the assault weapon ban, with two Republicans joining all of the senate’s 15 Democrats in support of the proposal, the Miami Herald reported.
The full bill, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, is expected to pass the state Senate on Monday, then go to the Florida House.
After the Senate rejected the ban, Stoneman Douglas student Jaclyn Corin tweeted,“This breaks my heart, but we will NOT let this ruin our movement. This is for the kids.
Fellow classmate David Hogg, who has become one of the school’s leading activists on gun safety, tweeted,“Elections are going to be fun!”
Also, an amendment to remove a provision to train and arm some teachers failed.
The bill raises the minimum age to buy a rifle or a shotgun to 21 from 18 and bans the use, sale or possession of bump stocks, which were used in the Oct. 1 shooting deaths of 58 people in Las Vegas. The device effectively turns semi-automatic weapons into automatics.
The bill includes $400 million in funding for schools to address mental health issues, the Herald reported.

That’s the way to do it. Every time the left pushes for gun control, pass laws for gun liberty.
If gun control worked, they would need gun control. Bad guys would follow existing laws. Gun control only punishes the law abiding.
Gun control isn’t about keeping guns away from bad people. It’s about disarming the law abiding to make us defenseless against bad guys and the government. I sort of repeated myself.
Maybe also keep surveillance videos in real time. This is $3 help...these are well paid professionals. Ridiculous.

That time delay was intentionally built into the system for a reason.
It's difficult to cover-up events and alter or eliminate the historical record when the video record is real time.

Well, no. It "effectively turns semi-automatic weapons into automatics" the same way that throwing a box of ammo into a fire turns the fire into a machine gun. You can get the same effect was a "bump-stock" with a rubber band (see YouTube) and it's not a way to fire a weapon accurately. There are less expensive and safer ways to make noise.
I assume you are okay with the age raised to 21 and the bump stock ban? I am probably okay with it myself.

I have a Ruger 10/22. ( It is fully automatic with a high magazine clip according to CNN). I don’t know what a bump stock is but I can really rattle off the rounds just using my finger.

I have no problem with raising the voting age to 21 at the same time.
Parkland would NEVER have happened if existing laws were enforced and if Obama hadn’t paid them to NOT enforce the existing laws.
Assault weapons are already banned.
