The congressional record shows that Rep. John Bingham, the main author of Section 1 of 14th Amendment (14A), had clarified the following about the scope of 14A on March 31, 1871.
One of the purposes of Section 1 of 14A is to apply to the states not just the Bill of Rights, including 2nd Amendment, but all personal protections that the states have amended the Constitution to expressly protect.
"Mr. Speaker, that the scope and meaning of the limitations imposed by the first section, fourteenth amendment of the Constitution may be more fully understood, permit me to say that the privileges and immunities of citizens of the United States, as contradistinguished from citizens of a State, are chiefly defined in the first eight amendments to the Constitution of the United States. These eight articles I have shown never were limitations upon the power of the States, until made so by the fourteenth amendment. Yeah, sure are a lot of “chicken littles,” and “pearl clutchers” here. Everyone hangs on every word that comes out of Trump’s mouth, but fail to see the end result. He DACAed the RATs today. At the end of the day, I am betting Fineswine and Chucky Schmucky, will have a coed wound licking session soon. Trump has so many throw away lines, that I thought today was funny.

Lots of folks getting oh-so-worried w/o knowing how strong the NRA is going after the politicians right now - while I love the NRA (and have since I was aware of it as a child in the ‘50s), they can overstep like anyone else and one of the reasons we elected President Trump is that he would not be beholden or coerced by ANY organizations.
Where, exactly, has the NRA overstepped?
Saw Dana Loesch (sp?) on Laura Ingraham show last night. She was “concerned”, but I did not get the sense there is any panic at the NRA. I believe (after all she was a huge never Trumper during the campaign) she’d be pretty vocal about it if it was real. I haven’t got one email from NRA this week, I’ve received plenty from other gun rights orgs, but nada from NRA, which means one of two things to me...they, along with Trump, have sold out (doubtful), or this is the DACA game all over again. “Send me a bill with “x” in it, I’ll sign it”....then two weeks later, “what the hell is this? This is awful, no deal”.
This age requirement nonsense brings to mind the .488 caliber rifle, “Old Betsy” in the hands of 17 year-old Davey Crockett and 12 year-old Daniel Boone, who got his first rifle at age 12. Daniel soon got a .44-caliber Kentucky long rifle built by his brother Squire, a skilled gunsmith, which he gave the nickname, “Tick-licker.” He boasted that, with it, he could shoot a tick off an animal without hurting the beast.
Then there was William “Buffalo Bill” Cody who was celebrated, at age 10, as the youngest Indian fighter on the Great Plains. About that time, Cody hunted buffalo for the Kansas Pacific Railroad work crews, earning his moniker “Buffalo Bill” and his reputation as an expert shot.
James Butler (”Wild Bill”) Hickok earned a reputation as a master marksman before he was 18 years-old. Shooting contests were a favorite sport at that time.
And speaking of shooting contests, I have to mention Phoebe Ann (Annie Oakley) Mosey. It was at age 15 that she won a shooting match against the famed traveling-show marksman Frank E. Butler (who she later married). It was this event that led her to the famous Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show a few years later.
Annie learned her shooting skills after her father died when she was six. Annie began trapping before the age of seven, and shooting and hunting by age eight. She sold the hunted game to locals in Greenville, Ohio to help her widowed mother support her six siblings.
Because of her father’s death, the events of Annie’s early years caused her to endure mental and physical abuse. It makes me wonder why today’s youth blame their bad behavior on the environment. It makes me wonder if their “mental problems” are not the result of something else that is being overlooked. I think it is being overlooked purposely. That Annie’s parents were Quakers gives me a clue.
These kids of America’s early beginnings, who shot guns at an early age, did not go on murderous rages. Their ability to shoot was turned to productive activities instead of destructive assaults against society. Why is this happening today? This is what we need to be exploring. These episodes of terror are a symptom of something going wrong. That we need an age limit for gun ownership tells me we need age limits for almost everything. We cannot have a society if we can’t trust our youth with anything.
Didn’t say the NRA has overstepped, but we don’t know what kind of dialogue they and trump may have had behind the scenes...the gal has a tone that says her ego may push the wrong buttons - I like what she’s been saying but I get the sense she ain’t any more reticent about being a blunt tool than I am and I have definitely chafed a few folks.

The fact that those ideas could even be in his head is very scary. And, if they are, then he should keep them in his head and not have them spew from his mouth. He has no filter.
I’m hoping that more rational people have a heart-to-heart with him before the weekend, and that all of this turn around quickly.
My concern is he is talking like he is not beholden to his voters.
