That’s right. And we’re talking about violation of due process on a mass scale.

>>A reported once said Trumps supporters take him seriously but not literally, while his detractors take him literally but not seriously.

And Trump has said multiple times that what he says unscripted or on twitter is who he really is.

It takes almost no time to get a warrant if you have probable cause. His history of killing animals, violence, and the calls telling the cops he was making threats were enough to get a warrant. Given his history with the cops the assault on his former girlfriend’s boyfriend was enough to jail him and take his guns.

This case is not a reason to violate due process. All that does is make everyone vulnerable to having their rights violated.

Nothing wrong with that statement. If my friend is drunk I take his keys. If my grand dad loses his mind I will take the guns. If he refuses I will call the cops and expect them to take them with no due process.

Crazy people already have too many rights.

You don't think they had enough reason to charge him?

I'm sure there are many laws that may apply. He and others like him are known by the community as being dangerous to society.

Trump is basically right again.

Lock em up, if he was a danger to society with his guns he was a danger without guns. The multiple systemic failures of law enforcement on every level in this case is so astonishing it’s a wonder anyone is even considering legislation at all.

here are more than enough laws on the books, the problem was Obama era policy implemented by the Broward Schhol Board and the Broward Sheriff

I'll leave Obama out of this but will include the mental health professionals, two I believe, he consulted. At the insistance of the school. There are plenty of laws on the books to have prevented him from legally getting a firearm. There were no professionals willing to get involves, despite dozens of incidents.

Trump blew that real bad. That is patently absurd . The tail doesn’t wag the dog unless we live in unconstitutional tyranny. The good news that would be stopped cold the first time it was tried. I am disappointed is Trump’s understanding of the constitutional right to due process here. VERY disappointed. This is something out of Orwell. Let’s go into Chicago and round up Black youth and put them in jail and then later let them try due process , notice hearing and right to counsel. What a naive joke.

I have no problem with seizing guns from the mentally ill.

All mentally ill? Seeking treatment for alcoholism or depression should bar firearm ownership? PTSD? For life? That's another issue Trump is far too vague on. Danger to self and others is a small subset of mental illnesses.

"And the reason he passed the background check is because the police, the school, school board, the local government and various others had a formal agreement to not report a long list of crimes because they wanted to "break the pipeline from school to prison" and were amply rewarded for that policy by the Obama Administration. Yet, that information was not presented by Trump and is being vastly underreported as the hysterical rush to ban guns and demonize the NRA gathers steam. Trump's slap at the NRA today is going to cost him and he needs all the support possible to fend off Mueller and rabid Left."

Well said. Needs to be said again.

He has to be toying with the Dems, has to be..no WAY does he actually believe this

I think you're likely mistaken, though he often speaks without thinking. A bad habit. Liberals will take him up on this proposal.

Finally, someone posts the context.

It’s amazing there are still people that don’t see how the liar media operate. This sort of thing happened so often o the campaign trail that it grew stale.

‘The Hill’ is an outlet for certain deep state operatives that hate Trump.

The statement was wrong, but the inference was clearly not a blanket statement against due process. I like having these meeting public, but not if people are going to freak out over various comments. Reminds me of those who thought was for legalizing all illegals after his DACA meeting.

If judicial action is required, who thinks with the social media threat documented that a judge would not have granted a seizure order or in the least a temporary restraining order that would have grabbed his guns ?

The first step would likely have been commitment, voluntary or not, for a mental health assessment. If the docs thought he was fine, well, he should be allowed to have weapons. Would a judge issuing a restraining order confiscate his gun(s). I don't know, he could. He would be barred from purchasing one. Laws are only as good as the people enforcing them. I have zero confidence in those involved in this case.

One mass shooting; all gun owners are guilty & must be punished by forfeiture of their guns & 2A rights. For the children!

One jihadi suicide bombing: screams of “This has nothing to do with Muslims or Islam!!!” Mandatory classes on Islamophobia for all!

(Excuse me while I go back to inventorying my stash)
