President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

One man. Not a contingent.

He picked his own contingent and most of them are duds.

Civil War may come but I doubt it because we are not our fathers or grandfathers.

Yes I know all the obvious problems with this, but does anyone not wish they had seized that crazy kid’s guns? Seems to me that should not have violated due process. Insane and death threats to shoot up a school should equal arrest and take his guns.

Trump is not known for nuance and as such it is easy to interpret the specifics of what he says may mean in many ways.

In my opinion, the removal of weapons from those who are unfit to possess them because they are a threat to themselves and or others is a many tiered issue.

For subjectively determined potential threats: removing someones God-given right to own a firearm and as such putting them on a list to prevent purchasing and subsequently even confiscating their weapons requires Due Process.

For subjectively determined immediate threats: temporarily removing someones firearms is not the panacea some claim because the threat is the person, NOT the specific gun they may have today. The threat could use weapons other than a gun and if really determined simply get another gun In my opinion, the threat should be detained with guaranteed DUE Process to follow. Due Process should determines whether or not an individual loses a God-given right.

I wish the police and FBI had done their jobs and it would've been a mute point.

I find it too convenient that the kid fell through every crack.

It's almost as if it was all planned out.

Taking your guns away is the last step between you and living under world government by UN.

In Florida, pulling a gun on someone is good for 10 years.
Assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Why didn’t the cops arrest his ass right there.
When he called 911, is enough to Baker act him, again take his firearms.

Scenario is a case where police are called in to a reported threat, and getting a warrant (”due process”) is reasonably expected to take too long before preventing grave harm. Police _do_ have authority to confiscate in such a situation, but the law needs clarification.”

Ctdonath2,

This needs to be pinged to every person on this thread that didn’t get the context.

I don’t think he meant it. I think it’s DACA all over again. He offered Dems a deal and then they no longer wanted to talk about it.

While I recognize the common use of due process refers to substantive due process, essentially the beginning of court proceedings. I'd suggest that deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law from a common sense perspective begins with the first contact with the legal process. I give you the Miranda warning to back up due process beginning with potentially incriminating contact with authorities. Not "confiscation" after court proceedings. In fact, in making an arrest for gun crimes, LEOs will take the firearms before giving the Miranda warning.

No kid who does not cherish education to protect it with a gun should ever be allowed to graduate. In fact such kid should be in juvy boot camp learning through a different drummer.

There is no context to explain away Trump’s behavior today.

He could be blackmailed or threatened and we have
no way to know.

Which is nationalized registration. A “list” for confiscation. One thing to have criminal/mental health data bases, quite another a “book of lists” for the socialist apparat to have access to, and just as in Cuba, for round up all the owners and their firearms.

In Cuba, it was Batista’s police registration that was used by the Communists to execute those owners who would not or could not give up guns they either had or had long ago transferred. A good friend saw his father shot in the head— on the street in Havana, by Che’— because he told him -
“there are no guns here” . But Che’ had the list. Truth was, the guns weren’t there- they were under a cabin floor in the mountains, and were later used against Castro- to no avail.

The government failed in stopping the Florida shooting

Now our President is failing in his response.

Can you draw a line between the two? GOVERNMENT

The Statute is specific— to Brandishing without threat to self. The FL Stand Your Ground law empowers engagement, even in public on a sidewalk- in the presence of what the person feels or recognize is as bodily harm. In which case deadly force allowed.

Assault and battery should have produced a search warrant for weapons- you are correct, because repeat offender.

This is what you get when the illustrious Obama was president during 9 of the worst school shootings in US history. He didn't sign one gun control legislation in eight.

So now that Trump comes along he's gonna hang us and himself by signing legislation that will start the beginning of the end of our second amendment

All because "pardon me" some little kids poured out there hearts in a pure emotional move and CNN and MSNBC ran with it !

In my opinion Trumps Ego is going to get in the way and hes going to go overboard just enough to get the demise of the second amendment started !

Go ahead get pissed cause you know its happening !
