Montrose Students start petition for safer security
MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- After the school shooting in Florida, two sophomores from Montrose High School are taking safety into their own hands.

"We want some security guards, preferably veterans because I know there has been some talk about arming teachers and most of us kids and teachers don't feel comfortable with that so we would rather have someone who has experience be there with a gun, said Sabrina Slaughter.

Oops wrong thread.
Hmmm...seems some kids are getting smarter.
Many veterans are now teachers, many non-veterans have much more experience and expertise with guns then some veterans. False truths/arguments are being put out there to make us feel better and to try and justify gun control like "you can stop a rifle with a handgun" and the like...
Meanwhile, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, high school students walked out by the hundreds today in support of a history teacher who had been suspended by the school administration for daring to entertain a discussion in his class about school safety issues and what might be needed to improve security in the school - the principal had initially threatened to punish the students by cancelling the school prom and senior trip, but by this evening had withdrawn those threats and was reconsidering the teacher’s suspension - finally one school walkout I can support......
Most teachers do not have to like it or do it. 10-20% would be enough along with additional training and a good security plan.

That’s great. I hope the teacher is back in class tomorrow. The kids did well.
how many of these students were out in the streets last summer protesting cops? now they only want cops to have guns? Trump’s cops? LOL
My wife and I were speculating what students would ask for more armed security in their schools and we both said it would probably be a town on the West Slope that was hunter and gun friendly - like Montrose!
From Montrose, CO? Probably none. It’s one of the most conservative towns in Colorado.
Dear Sabrina and Rosemary,
If your Montrose schools are gun-free, you should be very careful for people who would do you harm only attack gun-free schools.
If your school system permits teachers and staff to carry, then rest easy, those who would harm you will stay away.
Kid better run this by the Hoggster and get his approval first.
“... I know there has been some talk about arming teachers and most of us kids and teachers don’t feel comfortable with that so we would rather have someone who has experience be there with a gun.”
Because teachers can’t possibly know how to use a gun, right? Because teachers are stupid and can’t learn how to properly use a gun, right? Only government-trained military professionals could possibly know how to properly use a gun in times of stress, right?
Apparently, we have very low expectations from teachers.
Sheesh.
School board meeting tonight - massive turnout of students and parents, many admitting it’s the first time they’ve bothered to come to a meeting but they’re concerned about school safety - principal and board members looking sheepish - explain that while teacher is on leave he is still getting paid - vague messages about personnel matters which must be resolved before he comes back to class - from some things I’ve heard it sounds as though they’re trying to say he has some sort of mental problem because he was questioning school safety measures - unless the administration can come up with some very clear and specific findings against him, they’re not going to get away with it.....
Thanks. Sounds like he will be back in school if the community keeps the pressure on them. I hope he’s reinstated in short order.
In the early and mid 50s I lived in Philly and had a cousin who lived in Merchantville, NJ. and another cousin who lived in Cherry Hill. I visited both towns many times and they were really nice. I dont know how either is now but to me they will always be remembered fondly.
