Im used to being vilified by the far left as a bloodthirsty neocon warmonger for the Original Sin of having supported the invasion of Iraq along with 72 percent of the American public. It has been a little more surprising to be simultaneously vilified by the far right as a dangerous left-winger. David Horowitzs FrontPage magazine accused me of going full leftist for acknowledging that racism and sexism remain pervasive problems. Breitbart called me, with ironic quotation marks, the Washington Posts ostensibly new conservative columnist, because, among other sins, I support gun control and immigration. American Greatness wrote that I am a soulless, craven opportunist whose brain is broken, because I compared President Trumps indifference to the 2016 Russian election assault to a president ignoring 9/11. For the same offense, Jack Posobiec an Internet troll notorious for pushing the theory that Hillary Clinton was running a child-sex ring out of a Washington pizza parlor said I was sick and a Russian propagandist. In the Orwellian language of the far right, someone who wants to combat Russian aggression is a Russian propagandist, whereas someone who echoes Russian propaganda is putting America first.

Max Boot is a neo-liberal lickspittle for the deep state.
I think you are replying to the wrong person... Just FYI.
The truth is that in the run-up to the Iraqi war, only neocons dared put their heads above the parapet around here. Neocons were downright popular, and paleocons were purged left and right. And now this rich performance of community amnesia and denial. “Who, me,a neocon?”. It’s disgusting.
As far as warmongering, you'll fit right in with the Democrats there now as well—inasmuch as "neocons" no longer have a place in the GOP (thankfully) but are ascendant in the halls of Democrat foreign policy.
You go on to trash Dinesh D'Souza of all people, and state that you're for "immigration"—whatever that is supposed to mean in the absence of providing any context whatsoever.
Go ahead and pick your poison—"Deplorable" or what is clearly much worse. You're just another mundane propagandist for the Washington Post and Globalist totalitarians—at whose demonic church you apparently worship.
And evangelicals are to be dismissed simply because they support President Trump despite the fact that he's been married a few times? Evangelicals are intelligent enough to understand that God works his will through flawed vessels. What matters is what kind of man President Trump is now—and what he is now is superior to any person you could name as a replacement for him. Go ahead—tell us who would be better. Hillary, perhaps? That's probably who you voted for, isn't it, you little b-tch?
What's important is where a man's heart is. And this President's heart—not to mention the hearts of We the Deplorables—is in a much better place than the Ministry of Propaganda, the Fake News Media whom you serve, and the Swamp that is trying to overturn the results of a Presidential election via blatant abuse of power and a conspiracy at the highest levels of the federal bureaucracy.
Yes, Max, you're quite the hero to throw your tantrum of righteous indignation. The allegiance you pledge—by default—to the Uniparty Swamp couldn't be more evil. Pardon us for wanting to make America great again—as opposed to your ilk, which overly seeks to destroy it.
Choose wisely your side for the civil war which is beginning...
Thanks, Mariner! I have read Savage and of course the Federalist Papers, Friedman, etc. I’m not sure “language and culture” has anything to do with even Goldwater or Buckley’s vision of American conservatism, (you describe a sort of “nativism,”) but I am grateful for your reply. The danger of course to conservatism lies in protectionism as a philosophy: we must not be afraid to project military power and expand markets.
i remember when libertarians were included in the tent to the extent of having a Liberty Caucus, the remains of which are still here. But being overtly libertarian in the main forums can get someone banned. It’s a strange place these days.
They count on conservatives being as dumb as leftists and think this is going to work to brainwash more people.
“He likes the military I guess?”
Only the gay part......
Great job, Max. . someone has finally brought the Left and the Right into agreement. . We all hate you!
Dear Max:
“If this is what conservatism has become, count me out”.
You can’t be counted out as a Conservative if you never were one to begin with.
You always have been, and always will be a Neocon.
Contrary to what you may have been told by other Neocons, you are NOT CONSERVATIVES.
Mostly you are just NWO IDIOTS, we know it is not your fault but that doesn’t make you less of an IDIOT.
You can’t be a CONSERVATIVE until you have read, understand, and believe in the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.
Just as an aside; you should also have some understanding of the words in the BIBLE, it might actually do someone like you some good.
Thank GOD I have always been what my kids call a PALEOCON.
Let me get my straw conservative man out of my trunk and set him up here. Ill put his anti NRA badge on and his Bush for President sticker too. Now his MAGA SUCKS hat goes on. See? The right wingers are bashing him when I said he was a conservative. They are all evil, so Im not going to call my straw man a conservative ANY MORE!
Nope. But, the last two lines were aimed at Jennifer Rubin and are an adaptation of Steely Dan lyrics. Sorry for any confusion.
Neo-con - Statists who conned conservatives into thinking they were one of them, as they took “pro military defense” positions, that were really about globalist “nation building”.
“Im not sure language and culture has anything to do with even Goldwater or Buckleys vision of American conservatism”
Certainly not Buckley. He was the father of Modern Conservative Orthodoxy. And it’s Modern Conservative Orthodoxy which destroyed the Republican Party. Free Trade, War and Open Borders. They integrated the Neoconservatives and didn’t foresee the outcome.
Goldwater was a different, unique sort of Western libertarian. A fusion of southwestern individualism and free markets, low taxes, small government.
But the paleoconservatives like Buchanan and Russell Kirk (and now, Trump) have always held borders, language and culture at the center. If you want to use the word “nativism”, just know it’s seen as a derisive term on the paleo right.
BTW: The Neocons suffered a total and complete defeat in the GOP primary in 2016. They have been rejected. Completely. They’ll have to go back to the natural home for Marxists, the Dim party.
Neocons are basically the old Scoop Jackson Democrats, who got kicked out of the Democratic Party, much like the Dixiecrats.
Max Boot’s brand of “conservatism” is essentially indistinguishable from the kind of policies we had under Bill Clinton and would have had under Hillary. It’s basically just watered-down liberalism with a more aggressive foreign policy and a slightly more reasonable tax policy.
The difference is that the Dixiecrats were actually conservative on many issues while neocons are not.
