Trump renews attack on Florida deputy: 'I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon'

Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of an armed sheriff’s deputy who failed to enter a high school in Parkland, Florida, during a mass shooting this month, saying he would have run into the building even if he did not possess a weapon.

Addressing a gathering of 39 state governors at the White House, Trump said officers who were outside the school at the time of the shooting “weren’t exactly medal of honor winners”.

“The way they performed was really a disgrace,” he added. “I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon.”

The president spoke as lawmakers returned to Washington following a week-long recess and amid intensifying debate over gun laws.

Following the 17 teens murdered, Fla. Governor Scott has ordered an investigation of the terror-tied Muslim CAIR group to Broward Sheriff Scott Israel.

Israel's deputies did nothing during the Broward school shootout that killed 17 teens.

But it was recently revealed that Sheriff Israel provided weapons training to members of a radical mosque with ties to Muslim terror groups.

Precisely. If one is seriously interested in understanding the behavior of the deputy and not just blandly assigning blame, it’s necessary to understand what he knew at the time, and what his thinking was. Then it’s possible to make an assessment about the reasonableness of his actions. Absent that, mimicking that well known source of truth and facts, CNN, by running around yelling “coward!” “coward!” is foolish.

Trump may be falling for the same fake news he usually decries.

It would depend on how much you trust the police, your kid, and his friends. I’d hate to go in there without a weapon knowing that my bravado would make him more likely to leave there fatherless.
