WASHINGTON Florida Gov. Rick Scott Sunday rejected a plan pitched by President Trump to arm certain teachers with guns as a solution to stop mass shootings.
I disagree with him, Scott, a Republican, told Fox News Sunday. I believe youve got to focus on the people that are well-trained in law enforcement, that are trained to do this. I want to make sure we have significant law enforcement presence (at schools) on top of hardening the schools with metal detectors and bullet proof glass, better perimeter fencing.
I want our teachers to teach and our law enforcement officers to be able to protect the students. I want each group to focus on what they are good at.

Senator Nelson thanks you. He just won six more years.
Well who else, but Scott, has a shot at unseating Bill Nelson?
Hire armed ex-military for your teaching staff. Get security AND discipline as a bonus.]
Discipline? That’s what public schools have declared public school enemy number one.
[If you have an active shooter inside a school, you want a trained KILLER (see: SEAL or Recon Marine) not a trained law enforcement guy who could be distracted by a tray of doughnuts on his way to respond.]
That is a cruel, but true statement. A trained killer on our children’s side is much to be preferred when we face untrained psychopaths on the other.
That focus did nothing at that school.
Scott is wrong. Nobody is advocating that teachers act in place of police. They would be an adjunct, another layer of defense. In the FL case they would have been the only line of defense. And it would be teachers who volunteered for extra training and who likely already were carrying concealed guns, and there definitely are some.
The teachers who don’t want to carry, don’t have to. Of course, if THEIR classroom is one of the next ones to get shot up, they’ll have to explain to parents of any victims, why they didn’t have a way to protect their kids. Armed teachers is a kind of culture shock, though. They would have to have their weapon on their person to be effective. Can you imagine some overgrown 10th grader who’s trying to intimidate his teacher, trying to wrestle his or her weapon from him or her? What a world we live in.
I guess Rick Scott is a liberal and doesn’t care about the children.
Guess he wants more massacres.
Holy cow! It looks as if Scott is actually in love with Yeb!
I wonder what their pillow talk is about?
Did he miss the events this past week?
Since when does a pistol on a person's hip make them ineffective while doing their main job?
I carried concealed every day at work and it sure didn't change the way I performed my job. It did make me feel more secure in the knowledge that I could at least try to protect my people and myself if needed.
In this once-bastion of conservatism here in my county in Virginia most of the teachers are brain-dead liberals, but there are way more than enough conservative, trustworthy, teachers that would carry and protect the children.
Scott is wrong. Clearly, when the cops can’t or won’t protect the students, the teachers have to!
They don't have skin in the game. They are hirelings.
Jesus explains this in John 10:
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. (John 10:11-14)
A teacher cares for his/her students. (I am sure there are a few exceptions.) The teacher also may become a target and will act to defend his/her own life.
A hireling will wait outside the perimeter of the school.
Rats and RINOs: “You got to DO something!!!! (Sob)”
President: “OK, we’ll arm the teachers”.
Rats and RINOs: “NOOOOOO! YOU CAN’T DO THAT! (Whimper)”
