To: morphing libertarian
It's almost, no pretty much impossible for a Republican to win in California with the open primaries and the top two irregardless of party going to the general.

We have a beautiful State, but short of some epidemic or natural disaster that somehow targeted just democrats, I am afraid it's lost. The only other thing that might in the long run return balance involves the democrats so destroying California economically that even the rank and file democrats are so severely affected they vote for sanity instead of party.

Of course the dinosaurs may be back on top before rank and file democrats act sane.

Could also have conservatives just run as Democrats as well. This “jungle primary” would then be turned into essentially a non-partisan ballot. I bet they would move to do away with it if that were to take hold.
