They will pay for it, one way or another!

I prefer a tax on monetary transfers to Mexico, After all, it’s money from people who have stolen the jobs of Americans!

BTW: I love Mexican people and customs...I used to live in El Paso, I know these people, they are good people!

Given the corruption of Mexican government I don’t blame them for wanting to flee to the US.

it would be paid for — in one way or another — by Mexico.

********

I’m sure that there are varying ways to reduce the cash flow to
Mexico and thus they would be paying for the wall. Such items as
labors from Mexico sending their pay checks across the border.
Keep that money here and let the US citizens do the work and get
the payments.

“there is no way to confiscate such funds and if there is an attempt, the numerous other ways to transmit funds internationally will pick up the slack.”

It’s not confiscation. It’s a fee.

A 10% tariff on everything coming in from Mexico would not only fund the construction of the wall, it would fund it’s maintenance and manning in perpetuity.

It would also like fund the incarceration charges of those who try to bypass it.

Toll Wall.

Deal with it.

” It will be paid by Americans buying the goods.”

You assume Americans will be compelled to purchase those goods.

As far as I know Mexico doesn’t grow or produce ANYTHING we don’t grow and produce here.

Annual Trade deficit with Mexico = $50 Billion

Cost of building the Wall = $23 Billion

Annual trade deficit with China = $400 Billion

It does not take a genius to see that US has tremendous leverage to get Mexico to pay for the Wall and get China to pay for the infra-structure here.

"a tax on money transfers wired out of the country by noncitizens would build a nice wall"

It doesn't need to be much. Just a small "user fee" on remittances. Less than FEDEX would charge to deliver to Mexico.

"Mexicans sent home $26.1 billion from January to November 2017, according to figures released Tuesday by the central bank of Mexico." California charges a 7.25% sales tax. 7.25% x $26.1 billion is $1.9575 billion. Over 20 years that's nearly $40 billion, and that's if there is no growth.

(Department of Homeland Security said the wall could cost about $21.6 billion, not including maintenance. There are other figures from the left, apparently pulled out of their collective ***. Trump is a builder and if anyone can do this at a reasonable cost, he can.)

Actually, I would rather that Mexico takes over our border cities and anex them so we can lose those hordes of Democrat voters.

“Mexico, Trump has committed, will somehow end up paying for the border wall, whether that comes in the form of taxing remittances to have illegal aliens from Mexico actually pay for the wall or tariffs on imported goods from Mexico.”

Two problems with that. First, how do you identify illegal aliens from people here legally? And two, if you put a tariff on imported goods then Mexico doesn't pay for it, American consumers do.

Treasury has a means to freeze 100% of monetary electronic transfers.

Physically smuggling is possible but not easy through airport scanners.

Nieto is trying to manipulate Trump like Mexico did to Obama and other lefty-leaning presidents.

Trump brobably told him “don’t bother” if that was the subject of his visit, showing Nieto that trying to “schmooze” Trump doesn’t work.

Pena Nieto needs a media event to look good before Mexico’s election this year - Trump is driving a hard bargain, and keeping the leverage on the NAFTA/Trade talks underway.
