This is what happens when you stay in academia for too long - you begin to adopt some of their positions. For those who haven't heard Condoleezza Rice talk about why she USED to be a 2nd Amendment "absolutist", look it up online. She tells a compelling story of when the Birmingham bombings occurred, her father (and other men in the neighborhood) patrolled the street at night with guns to keep out the KKK. They weren't hunting, they were protecting themselves and their families (as a militia) when the state wouldn't do it. THAT is the purpose of the 2nd Amendment - guarding against failure of the state to protect the citizens.

She also tells a story of how Democrats would not let her father register to vote as a Democrat, but the Republicans would. That is how she became a Republican. That story needs to be told, too (but she probably doesn't tell that much anymore, because she hangs around with lefitsts).

I encourage every Freeper to clearly discuss the meaning and intent of the 2nd. Polpot, Stalin, Hitler, Khmer Rouge, Idi Amin, ... The progs and the left had made it clear they despise freedom and anyone who will not be brought to heel. It seems clear what their goals are for the remnants of The Christian, liberty loving, independent, society. But the price is too high as of now for them to finish their remake of society. Drop the 2nd and the path is clear.

Secondly, when average working Americans are struggling to pay mortgages, rent, groceries, etc, please enlighten me as to where in that budget there is $$$$$ to ‘hire a personal guard’. NEWSFLASH-—THERE ARE NO SUCH FUNDS AVAILABLE.

I live rural- but I am NOT living as rural as many in this USA. Those of you with fancy powerful jobs have NEVER spent any time in ‘flyover country’, and too many times when you open your mouth, you prove it.

When seconds count—the cops are only minutes away.....

That is the reality those of us who do NOT have Secret Service protection or bodyguards live with EVERY single minute of every single day. Nor do we live in fancy buildings where there is a doorman & a series of locked doors for people to be admitted thru. Actually, whee I live, in less than 3 miles from me, there are people living OFF the grid. They own their property, but they cannot afford the cost of bringing power to that property.

PERHAPS if your black buddy, Obama, had not pushed for ‘better statistics’ on the behavior of Hispanics & blacks in the school systems & forced those school districts to hide the actual daily happenings that placed so many other kids into mortal danger, we would never have had the shootings of Valentine’s Day.

The total insanity of NOT having consequences for bad behavior, especially in a school setting, where the kids are captured every day, is something you SHOULD be addressing. The deliberate chaos that Obama has placed on this country will take a long time to reverse.

Please rethink your positions on the CONSTITUTION which was written for a reason.

Meanwhile, enjoy YOUR ‘protection’.

Lockbar, in any argument, struggle or conflict, you want to have some weapons in reserve that the other side has no clue exist (sometimes that needs to be taken literally). I agree with your sentiments, but you got your facts a bit scrambled. The AR-15 IS the civilian version of the select-fire military rifle...which was originally the M-16, and is now the M-4.
