The effort to expand cynically named "right to work" laws says a lot about what is wrong with politics in our country. Disguised as protecting workers, the real goal is to silence workers voice, reduce our bargaining power and make our jobs more precarious. Its about powersocial, political and economic power.

I live in a Right to Work state. I don't put anything on my cars supporting the policy because there are plenty of union members who would vandalize my vehicle and re-arrange my kneecaps. No need to be a target. I have an "at will" employment agreement. It states that the employer or employee is free to terminate the working agreement for any reason or no reason. You aren't contractually obligated to stay if the employer inflicts undesirable behavior to the employee. Part of my initial agreement also identified items of intellectual property that were mine and not the property of the company. In the course of employment, you will build things as a "work for hire". That is company property if you developed it in the course of compensated employment. Patents developed at company expense traditionally bear the name of the researcher, but rights to the use of the patent are company property. It's a nice perk.
I drove a yellow cab in NYC and had to buy a “union ticket” for $3 on every shift.
God only knows what it is now.
There was absolutely no way to qualify for any union benefits either unless you worked a ridiculous number of hours a month.

I don’t know what proportion of union members are evil thugs, but 100% of them are okay with contributing their dues to pay those thugs. A shocking number actively join in the violence against their innocent victims. Unions disgust me.

Right to work does not mean you can not be part of a union.
It just means you can not be forced to join a union.
Here in Michigan we had a particularly nasty ploy, the SEIU successfully lobbied for unpaid family members to be classified as "home health care workers."
The 44,000 people affected never wanted to be part of a union. Why would they? There was no benefit to them. And they did not realize they were even being unionized.
When they got a letter from for the SEIU they tossed it as junk mail.
That was the only communication they had that they were being unionized.
Dues were then automatically collected from the care recipients' Medicare or Medicaid checks. The union ripped them off to the tune of 34 million.
Now mind you these people were not being paid in the first place. So the money was coming from the money that was suppose to provide treatment for the person they were caring for.
It takes a special kind of lower life form to rip off the sick and dying.
When right to work passed (and this was one reason it did pass) the union could no longer steal from the disabled. But they refused to pay the money they stole for doing exactly NOTHING.
That is what unions do.
And that is what Right to Work does.
It prevents a specially protected class from forcing people to give them money at gun point.
My first union run-in was with IBEW. They wanted to force me to join so I could walk into the San Diego ship yards to care for electronics on the tuna seiners. The bastards wanted their $60 initiation fee so bad that the took a power saw and cut the radio (AM/FM/8-Track) out of the console of my car. $1200 damage for an F'ing $60 fee. The other guy in my office had all the windows of his car smashed and $400 in camera gear stolen. Suffice to say, IBEW is permanent on my S-list. I avoid union interaction like the plague.
In NYC there is a butchers union, I worked on designing their new HQ back in the 80’s.
Total Mob control, they had a black guy as President for appearances sake, but the crazy looking Mafia guy who sat in on the meetings was clearly in charge.
Bottom line is that in non-right to work states you pay the union or you don’t work.
By the way, Trumps FAILURE to DISBAND FEDERAL WORKERS UNIONS is not MAGA.
My husband runs a company that is forced to hire Union goons. as the Employer, he pays 85k per month for the “privilege” of employing said A**holes. Workmen’s comp is outrageous as well, try winning one of those suits even with photos of the “injured” cutting down trees and shoveling two feet of snow!

Do Not get me started! This is a relatively small operation.
Unions appeared and got legal support in the wake of abuses. When the abuses went away the unions had to either dissolve or gin up more and more grievances to justify their existence.
The H1B is the new abuse, but unions don’t want to take that on as a cause. Why? The payola. Don’t lobby against the foreign imports if they can be taxed.
Unions suck. The uato workers (UAW) couldnt get the Chattanooga VW plant vote to go their way with 4 or 5 votes.
Union finally (with Obamas LRB) manages to sneak in a small UAW sub group. Crazy. Google/bing/DuckDuckGo it.
Down South men feel confident to do a good job, get honest pay, individually negotiate based on performance, but UAW wants to come in and protect druggies, incompetence, diversity, labor categories.... that have proven to kill everyones job. Pathetic.
German car companies are used to negotiating with unions that care about the long term and employees but that aint the UAW. Crazy world where the workers have to protect themselves and the company against the unions.
Dont forget the UAW will spend the union dues supporting politics their members dont agree with. Just ask the coal miner union members about the millions spent supporting global warming and green house gas emissions reductions buy gutting their own members jobs. Its crazy. Teachers unions supporting Abortion ....

Patriots are reminded that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect labor unions.
In fact, the NLRB doesnt have any constitutional justification to exist imo, arguably a product of post-17th Amendment ratification lawmakers willing to make unconstitutional promises to low-information voters to get elected, but also consider the following.
Regardless what FDRs state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices wanted everybody to believe about the scope of Congresss Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3) when they wrongly decided Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824 in Congresss favor imo, please consider this.
FDRs activist justices wrongly ignored that a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate INTRAstate commerce.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]." -Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
On the other hand, note that a given state can make laws supporting unions, as long as such laws dont abridge the constitutionally enumerated rights of citizens, such action prohibited by Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.
"14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

I never had a union job, but I never understood why you would be forced to give someone some of your money to keep your job.
Sounds like protection money or extortion to me.
The unions are on the ropes because the union leadership knows that 90% of the rank and file support Trump’s positions against the alien invaders. The union guys in construction or trucking goods know that these alien invaders are taking their jobs.
The leadership realizes that their fat and comfortable life - living like princes off confiscated union dues - is about to end.
Were it that easy, a court challenge would bring it down.
The alternative to "Right to Work" (with no one and no co$t between you and your employer...)
...is "Compulsory Union Membership" (You have no choice but to pay $$$ to Union/Mafia goons to allow you to work...)
That sounds pretty much par for the course; I hired private detectives to look into and report on some of the Workers Comp cases I had that I thought were fraud.
I actually had video of one crook doing down hill skiing at Mammoth Ski Resort, and video of another doing league bowling.
Both were supposed back injuries.
The state doesn’t care because they are not paying the insurance costs on WC, the employer has to do that.
I could go on for a thousand cases and ten thousand pages about the fraud that their unions encourage, and the state ignores.
The ones I really hated were the ones that happened when an employee would injure themselves doing a side job on the weekend, then come crawling into work and an hour later they would claim an on the job injury, with NO witnesses of course.
You just have to file their claim and hire a good detective.
And also get an honest Labor Board hearing.
I didn’t get canned, I quit.
After listening to about 4,000 delegates at that meeting tell me how great JIMMUH CARTER was, I felt like projectile vomiting.
I guess the fact that I had the ONLY WHITE FACE in the whole auditorium might have factored into the threats, jeers, and catcalls I got after making my (conservative) political statement in rebuttal to all their socialist crap.
