For almost a half-hour after a school shooter dropped his assault-style rifle and escaped Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, police officers thought they were seeing his actions live on the school's security system.
They soon realized the images were tape delayed, which Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi told the South Florida Sun Sentinel made a chaotic situation more confusing.
The 19-year-old suspect Nikolas Cruz was captured an hour later in a neighborhood about 2 miles from the school where 17 people died Feb. 14.
The newspaper reports police transmissions show that police initially couldn't get to security cameras. Sheriff Scott Israel said at a news conference he didn't know about the security system delays but would look into it.

Just an odd question here...but when they installed this security camera feed...did the guys note on day one that this wasn’t actually live and an hour delayed? And if it is an hour delayed....why? Is the whole city feeding their security images on the 60-minute delay as well?

Mean to tell me, w/ all the ‘internal investigations’ to ‘assist’ in the dropping of the NUMBAHS to 60% that school had *NOBODY* that required a tape review (IE: someone to notice the delay)??

We have the same place here in California, and it’s name is Marin County. Just across the Golden Gate Bridge. Marin has spread it’s $hit liberalism here for all my life. It’s Berkeley for the rich Secular Progressive Jews in the Bay Area.

Of course they would have to get on it and remove anything embarrassing or questionable - getting on it would be where that process would probably break down.

What this and Vegas need, is someone from the outside, with an army of forensic people backing them up, to go thru all of this.
Any delay in that, makes absolutely no sense. Why even have it, if you can’t watch what’s going on, real time. Or, did someone mess with the machine. If they did, there would be a way to tell.
Hence the reason for someone on the outside to do a REAL investigation. Something that will never be done.
One more thing, though, Broward Cty must have a ton of money laying around. Because to say you’re going to knock the school down, are they building a brand new one or are the kids being bussed someplace else and spread out?
I hate to sound cold and callous, but I think that father that was wearing the Trump shirt and ended up in the White House, should consider some type of acknowledgement to the President. I didn’t watch what he said when he was at the White House. And I certainly cannot imagine what he and his family are going through.
At the end of the day, 99% of the blame for this event lays on that scumbag kid. But, the remaining, 1%, is an entirely different story. And that 1% is YUUUUGGGGEEEEE. There are so many f*ck-ups with this case that it’s absurd that people could be so corrupt, incompetent and callous toward these kids and supposedly, educating them. The entire Broward Cty leadership needs to, at the very least, be replaced, if not investigated and brought up on charges.
He was outside, hiding behind a column. The CCTV monitors were inside one of the other buildings on campus.
Not the entire school - just ther building where people died.
I couldn’t figure out why there would be a delay. It makes no sense. Then I got to thinking. Why do the networks delay a live broadcast? So they can edit things on the fly. What if the video that the police were seeing was delayed because it was being edited on the fly at a location other than the security office at the school. What if someone wanted to hide something or someone from the live video?
We really have to know a lot about the technology at play here.
I have a feeling - its just a matter of people not knowing how to use the video system.
Probably easy to dial the feeds back in time - even by accident.
As the shooting broke out, its possible someone was reviewing the feed trying to figure out where they guy was - remember he pulled the fire alarm - so he might be hard to pick up.
Once the feed was set back 10-15 minutes - and nobody noticed - they were screwed.
Interesting, I hadn’t thought of that angle, because indeed they ARE video taped and even put on our local station.

There needs to be a top down performance review at the school, police department, and FBI. Some people should be out of a job for the actions they took leading up to the massacre, during it, and even now.
