When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff's deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.

Let me get this straight: Because the FBI and Broward County Sheriff Department couldn’t or wouldn’t do their jobs to prevent or stop the school shooter, 18, 19 and 20 year old law abiding citizens will be penalized? Shame on President Trump for beginning the process of ending gun rights in this country. Tell your Washington Senators and Reps to vote NO!
Why wasn’t the cop on the inside of the building to begin with?
Those deputies should all have listened to Kenny Rogers
“Sometimes you gotta fight when you’re a man”:
“Coward Of The County”
Everyone considered him
The coward of the county
He’d never stood one single time
To prove the county wrong
His mama called him Tommy
But folks just called him yellow
Something always told me
They were reading Tommy wrong
He was only ten years old
When his daddy died in prison
I took care of Tommy
‘Cause he was my brother’s son
I still recall the final words
My brother said to Tommy
“Son, my life is over,
But yours has just begun.”
Promise me, son,
Not to do the things I’ve done
Walk away from trouble if you can.
Now it don’t mean you’re weak
If you turn the other cheek
And I hope you’re old enough to understand
Son, you don’t have to fight to be a man
There’s someone for everyone
And Tommy’s love was Becky
In her arms he didn’t have to prove he was a man
One day while he was working
The Gatlin boys came calling
They took turns at Becky
And there was three of them
Tommy opened up the door
And saw his Becky crying
The torn dress, the shattered look
Was more than he could stand
He reached above the fireplace
Took down his daddy’s picture
As his tears fell on his daddy’s face
I heard these words again
Promise me, son,
Not to do the things I’ve done
Walk away from trouble if you can
Now it don’t mean you’re weak
If you turn the other cheek
And I hope you’re old enough to understand
Son, you don’t have to fight to be a man
The Gatlin boys just laughed at him
When he walked into the bar room
One of them got up
And met him half way ‘cross the floor
Tommy turned around they said
“Hey, look, old yellow’s leavin’.”
You could’ve heard a pin drop
When Tommy stopped and locked the door
Twenty years of crawling
Was bottled up inside him
He wasn’t holding nothing back
He let ‘em have it all
Tommy left the bar room
Not a Gatlin boy was standing
He said, “This one’s for Becky,”
As he watched the last one fall
N’ I heard him say
I promised you, Dad
Not to do the things you’ve done
I walk away from trouble when I can
Now please don’t think I’m weak
I didn’t turn the other cheek
Papa, I should hope you understand
Sometimes you gotta fight when you’re a man
Everyone considered him
The coward of the county
I only see two options for their future (the cowardly deputies):
- (1) They may commit suicide, and I won’t be able to blame them if they do, or
- (2) they need to devote their lives to making up for their cowardice, if they are willing to face the world day after day. It would take a miracle to give them a second chance big enough to redeem them, but God specializes in miracles.

"Change in tactics: Police trade talk for rapid response"
"Columbine was a seminal event," says Chief Ron Sloan of the Arvada, Colo., police department. "You had two individuals intent on killing as many people as possible.... It kind of shattered our innocence: The unthinkable now is thinkable." ...
Under the new "rapid deployment" approach, police in Arvada, just west of Denver, are being trained to take charge if they arrive at a scene of a shooting in progress. They will carry AR-15 semiautomatic rifles and be equipped with ballistic helmets and vests ...
"We're talking about street-ready cops having the equipment and training necessary to respond immediately," says Arvada Deputy Chief Ted Mink. "Law enforcement can't afford to sit back on its heels. It's all about public safety."
Since Columbine, countless police departments nationwide have taken similar steps. "In every place that I'm aware of, there has been a profound shift," says David Klinger, a criminologist at the University of Missouri in St. Louis.
"They have instituted a far higher level than ever before of training for officers to respond to an active shooting. Columbine was the catalyst, without a doubt." ... When agencies try to avoid high-risk situations at all costs, and wait for SWAT to arrive, the problem is that the cost is going to be innocent victims,"
he says. "Unfortunately, we've had an increase in school shootings with mass casualties. Police chiefs can no longer bury their heads in the sand." Others emphasize that strategic decisions must be made at the scene, based on the particular circumstances. ...
Common-sense approach
"It's very situational. If it's at a school, and there are students inside, we wouldn't want officers waiting outside," he says. But in a domestic dispute or bank robbery, officers would opt for a more traditional approach in the absence of gunfire, he says. ..." https://www.csmonitor.com/2000/0531/p2s2.html

The hanging chad thing was in Palm Beach County, on the northern boundary of Broward.

Ok, but you aren’t a mentally disturbed teenager are you?
Thanks for that info. What does CSM stand for?
“They will carry AR-15 semiautomatic rifles and be equipped with ballistic helmets and vests ...”
I’m guessing that Columbine, along with 9/11 is about when we started seeing more and more officers with the SWAT style gear. Makes sense.
Thanks Robert A Cook PE.
What you posted is my understanding of the situation. The Coral Springs police (+one from Sunrise) had the guts to enter and confront the killer. But I also understand that by the time they all entered the shooter had stopped and was escaping by blending in with fleeing students. The shooting was very brief. 3-5 minutes.
The killer then whiled away an hour at Walmart, ate at a fast food joint, then was found and arrested. He probably could have killed more students but for some reason decided to ditch his weapons, ammo etc and escape the mayhem along with the students rushing away from the scene.
The Four Broward Cowards.
May shame and disgrace follow them everywhere.
This should tell you all you need to know about Sheriff Israel:
It stands for Christian Science Monitor.
Oh! “CSM” I thought it an acronym for some official agency - Colorado .... or Criminal ... Thanks!
>>People are naive to think a cop is going to slap on his bullet proof vest, and enter a scene where there is an active shooter.
Exactly. Cops are civil service employees who collect revenue and take reports. They are not heroes and people need to stop thinking they are.
listen carefully to what this student says...

...might explain why the deputies did nothing.
“Gee, this took Uranium One off the table....Just saw a pic of our Lovely Sheriff with non other than, Herself!”
After thinking about it, I can’t figure out why her vile loftiness would be hobnobbing with a lowly LEO.
“If I wielded the AR or AK, hed not survive his entry.”
Especially if you didn’t know he was there. You would instinctively fire through walls and take him down, even though you couldn’t see him.
What the hell is your problem? Are you trolling us?
“Are you trolling us?”
Who is us? Do you speak for another?
I did not direct my comment at you, and I doubt you understand the context.
That’s because you are driven by emotion rather than reasoned argument.
I’m thinkin’ you’re the troll. A troll encrusted in emotional buttons.
