In the wake of the horrific slaughter in Parkland, Florida, a cadre of energized and understandably traumatized teenagers has flooded Washington and the airwaves to say remarkably passionate, occasionally extreme things about guns and the need for gun control.
Because these teens are politically effective, a bunch of goons, buffoons and trolls have floated conspiracy theories aimed at discrediting them. I won't be more specific than that because it's all reprehensible bilge.
At the same time, quite a few advocates of gun control, including many who claim the mantle of "objective" journalism, have taken the view that these kids cannot be criticized or gainsaid in any way. Apparently, it's fine to push kids suffering from post-traumatic stress -- or the still-grieving parents of murdered children -- in front of cameras in order to drive public policy, but it's an affront to decency to disagree with what they say or question the practice of using victims this way. (No, it's not morally equivalent to some of the horrendous things the swamp-dwellers have said about these kids, but that is a low bar.)

Yeah, Jonah, that is pretty much close to true. The NRA has to stand and fight in the wake of every one of these tragedies.
Wake up.
Liberals are trying to push the narrative that teenage kids (most of whom who can’t even operate a washing machine)
have financed and organized media events, mass transportation, and a national demonstration in Washington, DC.
Why do you hate teenagers? This is a high-achieving high school. It isn’t a ghetto school. I’m surprised at the hate by conservatives directed at students parents would be proud to have.
F*** you, Jonah Goldbrick. F*** you.
” (most of whom who cant even operate a washing machine)”
And are by their own admission too unstable and too irresponsible to purchase a rifle.
Goldberg is the quintessential Cuckservative.
Serving his masters in the Ministry of Propaganda.
Yeah, I should have put a goldfarb disclaimer on it. Wet noodles for me. ;-)
You are missing the point. I am sure many of the parents of the students are very proud of their achievements. And in some cases at least it is pretty clear that the parents have a lot to do with what the kids are saying and doing now. And that is working in concert with politically oriented groups and media to influence the political process without disclosing their true background.
What some of these kids are doing is no different from a Russian troll in St. Petersberg - they are portrayed in the media as ordinary high school students but they are actually committed political activists, and actresses who happen to be in high school. You aren't seeing a sample of what the students at the school thought, or even believe occurred during the shooting.
You are seeing carefully picked political activists and at least one actress, chosen to present the talking points of gun control advocates.
see post 10 this thread. I do know better. LOL!
Children’s Crusade (1212 AD)
A boy begins to preach in either France or Germany, claims that he had been visited by Jesus, who instructed him to lead a Crusade in order to peacefully convert Muslims to Christianity. Through a series of portents and miracles he gains a following of up to 30,000 children. He leads his followers south towards the Mediterranean Sea, in the belief that the sea would part on their arrival, which would allow him and his follows to Jerusalem. This does not happen. The children are sold to two merchants (Hugh the Iron and William of Posqueres), who give free passage on boats to as many of the children as are willing. The pilgrims are then either taken to Tunisia, where they are sold into slavery by the merchants, or else die in a shipwreck on San Pietro Island off Sardinia during a gale. A few may have failed to reach the sea, and die or give up out of from starvation and exhaustion. They had been betrayed by some of the adults in their group.
“Because these teens are politically effective, a bunch of goons, buffoons and trolls have floated conspiracy theories aimed at discrediting them. I won’t be more specific than that because it’s all reprehensible bilge.”
With all due respect Mr. Goldberg, the mere assertion that conspiracy theories are “all... bilge” does not make it so any more than the creative imaginations of such theories make them true.
The reality is there are nefarious people and groups of those people in this world. It is not “bilge” to speculate that people who would like to kill millions in a modern-day holocaust would not be beneath grooming, manipulating, and brainwashing young men to be killers and terrorists with the SOLE PURPOSE of driving a gun-control agenda (so they could then carry out their larger agenda of murdering millions). It is also not beneath them to groom young people to be the spokespersons for such an agenda.
History PROVES this is a reality in this world, as much as we wish it were not so. History also proves that those who succumb to normalcy bias put themselves at risk. And those who say “This is as bad as it’s going to get,” and fail to take a stand against tyranny will fall to it.
That being said, Mr. Goldberg has some solid points and is on the right side of this issue. Just don’t fall into the trap of underestimating the gun-grabbing enemy. Do not assume they do not have a more nefarious agenda.

When the Japanese attacked us in 1941, thousands of teenagers lined up to volunteer to join the military. If that happened today, I think thousands would line up and demand we surrender.
David Hogg isn't an ordinary teenager who just happens to have something to say. He's been prepared to be a spokesman for a cause.

But here is how I would handle the issue, with the reasoned response of the greatest American:
From Chapter Two of the Conservative Debate Handbook:
A few years earlier, at the conclusion of the War, General Washington had put his thoughts on the Common Defence into a May 2, 1783 draft to Alexander Hamilton, entitled Sentiments On A Peace Establishment:
...to prove ...the Policy and expediency of resting the protection of the Country on a respectable and well established Militia, we might not only shew the propriety ...from our peculiar local situation, but we might have recourse to the Histories of Greece and Rome in their most virtuous and Patriotic ages.... we might see, with admiration, the Freedom and Independence of Switzerland supported for Centuries, in the midst of powerful and jealous neighbors, by means of a hardy and well organized Militia. ...
It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even of his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice...
The following month, June 8, 1783, Washington reported to the States, in surrendering the solemn trust of his command:
The Militia of this Country must be considered as the Palladium of our security, and the first effectual resort in case of hostility...
Washington's reference to the Swiss was quite revealing. Trained, as school boys, in the safe, correct and deadly accurate use of arms, the Swiss had and have managed to maintain an armed neutrality for generations amidst their more warlike, but less war efficient neighbors. While world travelers have reported for generations that Switzerland, where every household has its own military grade weapons, has the lowest crime rate in Europe. The Swiss have also managed to preserve the diverse rights of their 22 Cantons (or States) better than any other Federation in the world.
Yet perhaps the single most important reason why Washington wanted America to adopt the Swiss system, is that it teaches the youth--in the most immediate and compelling manner--the importance of that level of personal responsibility on which all of our other institutions are based. It gives youth a sense of purpose, importance and self-worth, for which all the words expended by "Liberal" theorists, from the Creation to this day, are no substitute.
