The Marine Corps is on the defensive for a second time this month over changes to its famous Infantry Officer Course (IOC).
Military communities were abuzz in early February when officials confirmed that successfully completing the Combat Endurance Test (CET) the rigorous first stage of IOC would no longer be a requirement for passing the 13-week course.
The Corps answered criticism on Feb. 7, but found itself in the same position this week as new standards for IOCs training hikes were revealed.
The course previously required a Marine to complete nine hikes, of which six would be evaluated more carefully and passage required on five of the six. The new standard evaluates just three of the Marines hikes, though he must pass all three, Marine Corps Times reported Wednesday.

When the push by the Army and Marine Corps started for women in combat it was assured that no standards would be lowered.
Brig. Gen. Bohm still attempts to say that but it's clear they've been lowered.

No they do not. Not with the 80+ lbs of gear necessary for a combat load, much less the 120+ lbs of a full movement (carrying crew served weapons like the .50)

Being an old Army guy I suppose I don't have any “standing” to comment on the Marines...but stories like this make me fear that sometime the saying will change from “send in the Marines” to “send in the transgenderds”

I’d guess he’s already signed off on this and doesn’t want to talk about it.

I remember when women first entered the Academies. The said “Nothing will change”. The standards dropped like flies and changes were everywhere. The phrase became a mocking mantra.

He’s been disappointing.
I don’t want to hear any more comparisons to General Patton.

When the next war with Russia or the ChiComs break out, we are going to be in a world of hurt because of the PC Millenials and snowflakes running our Military. Pretty sad.

Old army guy here, too. Did it occur to you that if they keep lowering standards, we might be eligible to reenlist? I mean, if they breach the threshold of my age and pre-existing medical conditions, I'd consider maybe the reserves or guard. But, God knows the Republic would be in a world of hurt if it came down to putting me back in a uniform.

Yep. We lost our edge, we lost our youth, so we have to use what tools we got left. That’s what makes us old guys so dangerous. We fight dirty.

Yes, the beginning it is always ‘we won’t lower standards’ and then standards are lowered.
