WaPo: Add Democrats’ win in Kentucky to the growing evidence that they will have a good 2018
Washington Post ^ | 02/22/2018 | Amber Phillips

The clearest way to get a picture of how well Democrats are doing in 2018 is to go down the list of recent special state legislative elections:

* A Florida state legislative district that Donald Trump won by five points, according to data from liberal political blog Daily Kos, is now in the hands of Democrats, who won it by eight points this month.

* In January, Democrats flipped a Wisconsin state legislative district that Trump won by 20 points.

* A few weeks later, Democrats flipped a Missouri state legislative district that Trump won by nearly 30 points, for a swing of 31 points in one district in a little more than a year.

* And Tuesday night brought, perhaps, the most impressive win of all for Democrats: A Kentucky state legislative district that Trump won by nearly 50 points in November voted for a Democrat over a Republican, an extraordinary 86-point swing. Democrat Linda Belcher won back her old seat after her opponent committed suicide days after being accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at the church he ran.

His wife announced a day after his death that she would run for his seat, but she failed to show up to candidate forums and is tied to some of the legal controversies in which her late husband was enmeshed.

The fact that a Democrat won a conservative Kentucky seat isn't necessarily a surprise. It comes amid a bona fide trend of Democrats winning state legislative elections deep in Republican territory this election cycle.

Now, they’ve got the gun issue and what a weapon they have, KIDS !
“ Innocent” children, who only tell the truth will be used.

Not sure if money makes that much difference at all. Remember, Hillary outspent Trump 4 to 1 and still lost the elections.

When you learn the facts of this case, it’s easier to see how the democrat won.

Lol.

About somehow this being representative of anything.

What they fail to mention is the democrat won this seat in 3 of the last 5 elections. And that this same democrat women was in the seat as recently as the 2014-2016 term. Yes, President Trump and the Republican running for the seat had a good year in 2016. But this is hardly a hardcore Republican seat that no democrat has won in a century.

RE: About somehow this being representative of anything.

Did you read about them flipping the seats in Florida, Wisconsin and Missouri at the top of the article?

How about this — ROY MOORE LOST IN ALABAMA !!

This is not something to laugh about.

The Repubs in these cases were so seriously flawed, they had no chance.

The Democrat media is setting this up so that if Republicans don’t lose the 30 House seats that is customary for the party in power, they can scream that the Russians hacked the off-year elections, too.

If the Democrats gain the House, the first item of business will be impeaching President Trump for beating Hillary in 2016.

Well if Democrats just run against sex offenders who have committed suicide, they have a lock on 2018.

Nothing has changed except that Trump is more popular than ever.

Trump drove the 2016 elections. He's going to drive the 2018 elections too, unless he stops keeping his promises.

Yep, it was the same when Obama was in there...a lot of people got pissed off at all the crap he was doing and went out and voted...now the tables are turned.

One thing that would likely help is Trump following through on his promises. So far he’s done some of that but it’s not enough. Gota get to the wall.

I think Sessions could have a huge impact by convening a grand jury, getting indictments of the known bad actors, like Comey, Lynch, Clapper, etc. Bringing charges against Clinton would seal the deal but I’m not holding my breath.

I suspect the establishment is just fine with Democrats taking over congress and so they’re hanging Trump out to dry so he is unable to do anything more.

OK, before we jump off a bridge, please take a look at the cushion the GOP has in state houses currently.

I get it, losing sucks. I just hope we figure this out before the midterms.

Probably their usual 153%. But in other news, I hear that the investigation into voter fraud by M. Mouse and D. Duck are almost complete.

“He’s going to drive the 2018 elections too, unless he stops keeping his promises.”

For sure! It’s all the more outrageous that not only is he alone to do it, but he has also useless clowns like Sessions, Wray, Ryan or McConnell to drag him down and/or to stab him in the back.

There is no evidence that the dems will have a good 2018.

There may or may not be indications that the dems will have a good 2018, but there is no evidence. Evidence only applies to things which have already occurred. There is no such thing as "evidence" of an event which has not yet happened.

This is just more evidence of the pathetic lack of knowledge of the English language demonstrated by 21st century journalists.

Twenty years ago the Washington Post was a disgraceful, leftist, rag - but its writers and editors could at least write well and edit competently. Today they are still disgraceful and leftist, but they are also practically illiterate.

And that's a reflection on Trump HOW, exactly??
