New: Trump just said he signed a memo directing the Attorney General to propose a rule outlawing bump stocks, all devices "that turn legal weapons into machine guns." He expects those regulations to be finalized "very soon."

Bum Stock is just a word. It’s the other open ended wording that will be ruinous.

You can replicate a bump stock just by keeping the butt of the rifle slightly off your shoulder.

Bump stocks are stupid. Anyone with guns knows that. They reduce accuracy to nothing. It’s a toy.
If you want the thrill of shooting a machine gun, you can do it legally in Vegas and lots of other places at gun ranges that have fully automatic machine guns like the kind in Rambo!
You can also legally purchase a pre-1986 machine gun by paying about $20,000 and going through a year long FBI background check that is similar to a colonoscopy. But people do them and you can legally buy one.
Man, I’m really liking my idea. Sure I should try not to hurt myself patting myself on my back. But this is genius!

As long as the standard infantry rifle is capable of full auto, those restrictions are unconstitutional. We have tolerated them for 80 years against our wishes. Again, this order might mention “bump stocks: but they are such a minute market share, the real issue is about the “other devices”.

It also seems that, if such restrictions would be imposed on a free people, they must start with Congress. I, for one, have had quite enough executive overreach, even from our side. As you say, then there is the whole "shall not be infringed" problem, which makes the whole thing moot.
