Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway on Monday urged the National Rifle Association to move its upcoming annual convention elsewhere in light of last weeks mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Mr. Caraway, who represents District 4 on the Dallas City Council, told reporters Monday that the NRA would be met with opposition if it continues with its annual meeting of members event, scheduled for May 3-6 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas, Mr. Caraway said, local ABC affiliate WFAA reported.

Two Call for Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway to Resign
Financial disclosure reports show Caraway, while on the Dallas City Council, worked for Swartwood’s company as a “consultant,” and was paid at least $50,000 during a two-year period to help find real estate for the company to buy in south Dallas.
In his last interview with NBC 5 Investigates, Caraway acknowledged working for Swartwood’s company, and added that the company, separately, loaned his family $20,000.
As part of the ongoing investigation at Dallas County Schools, Swartwood in December pleaded guilty to a federal charge of money laundering, admitting he funneled bribes and kickbacks to a top DCS official.
Those bribes, according to the government, came from a company operated by Leonard, prompting the FBI to serve search warrants at his home and at his business.
Leonard, who has not been charged with a crime, has told NBC 5 Investigates he is not to blame for the problems and for the loss of millions of taxpayer dollars in failed business deals in which his company, Force Multiplier Solutions, equipped millions of dollars in surveillance cameras on DCS school buses.
This jerk doesnt realize that hotels and retailers have been gearing up for months for the onslaught of spending customers coming to:the NRA convention there. Millions in lost revenue opportunities.
Looks and sounds like a typical thug, a big typical thug.
He must think the title of Mayor is the same as Dictator. There are thousands of NRA members in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. He does not have to come to the convention because the NRA will have a full house.
He’s just another angry black man some idiots put in a position of power.....these guys are never fully vetted.
Looks like Dwaine is getting lots of camera time on several fronts.
Perhaps, the school fiasco will be a serious stumbling stone.
What a DUMBASS. I believe that the ACTUAL Mayor is much more mature.
“This coming from a Texan. Simply amazing.
Liberal, Black, Activist, Dallasite...not a real Texan in my book.
In spite of my screen name, I’m not a Dallasite. Didn’t think of something more fitting when I joined LOL
Dallas is pretty much “Austin North” now.
And then there’s the chimp-out picture in post #28 ...
Even NW Dallas? I could see downtown being that way, but not sure about the outer suburbs.
It’s disturbing because this is “deep in the heart of Texas.”
We eat such opposition for breakfast, and pass it out of our systems by dinner time.
That particular mayor is a Texan in name only-he is also under investigation for crimes like bribery, etc-he’s attempting to throw a shiny object to deflect attention from that...
Our large cities are as infested with liberals the same as cities all over the US-they crap the places up like rats until everyone moves to the burbs and the country but the liberals and their welfare slaves...
We eat such opposition for breakfast, and pass it out of our systems by dinner time.
I agree. Not a fan of Austin. Never was. Other than Torchy’s Tacos started there, but I can avail myself of tacos at the Southlake location :)
Caraway is an idiot and an opportunist.
So hes threatening the NRA. Thats an assault on their first amendment rights at least or blackmail.
Coming from an elected official thats treason.
He needs to step down immediately or hes going to face opposition.
It is HIGH time that we hold our elected officials to account for their misdeeds and lawlessness.
Not your typical Texan ...
