Rep. Kevin Cramer, North Dakota Republican, launched his campaign for Senate during a rally in Bismarck on Friday, saying he had to jump into the race after his opponent celebrated voting against a 20-week abortion ban.
Mr. Cramer, who has served three consecutive terms in the House, decided to challenge vulnerable Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.
Ms. Heitkamp recently drew fire from conservatives after she high-fived Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, after voting against a bill that would have banned abortions after 20 weeks of gestation.
At that point, you realize its bigger than you, Mr. Cramer told Valley News Live during his rally Friday night.
Somebody has got to step in and do something about it, he said.
Ms. Heitkamp is one of several Democrats trying to hold onto their seats in red states. Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 36 percentage points in North Dakota in the 2016 presidential election.

I hope he's not a nut.

He is not. I met him when I was a delegate to the North Dakota Republican State Convention in 1988. He is pretty level headed.
He is not a nut but also not much of a campaigner. Heitkamps brother is a big radio personality in ND and she will have the major (only one) new organiztion (Radio, TV in all four major cities, and newspapers) backing her,
Good news...bump!
Heitkamp voted against the tax cuts and to eliminate funding for Sanctuary cities. Cramer had announced he would not run for Senate but recently changed his mind. She may had voted differently knowing Creamer was in the race.
Heitkamp won her last election as the result of 16,000 provisional ballots being cast that could never be valided. ND allowed same day walk up voting. Lots of people came over from MN to ND to vote.
Faux conservative? One article said 36%.
“This is good news.”
Thanks, that what I thought - looking good for a PICK UP!!

The most brutally honest evaluation. They take into account all of the show votes a Rep can take to appear conservative and hammer them if they vote otherwise.
HA! Good one!
Well played!
