Feinstein to introduce bill raising minimum age for rifle purchases
The Hill ^ | 02/16/18 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 02/17/2018 7:21:25 AM PST by Simon Green

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said on Friday that she will introduce legislation to raise the minimum legal age to buy rifles in the wake of a school shooting in Florida.

Feinstein said the legislation would require anyone buying a firearm from a gun dealer to be at least 21 years old.

“Under current law, licensed gun dealers cannot sell a handgun to anyone under 21, but they are allowed to sell assault rifles like the AR-15 to anyone over 18. This policy is dangerous and makes absolutely no sense," Feinstein said.

She added that "if you can’t buy a handgun or a bottle of beer, you shouldn’t be able to buy an AR-15."

The bill comes after 17 people were killed during a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, roughly 30 miles from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The suspected shooter, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, allegedly used an AR-15 rifle. Federal law enforcement officials told The New York Times that the gun was purchased legally.

Under federal law, gun dealers can't sell a hand gun to anyone under 21.

But licensed gun dealers can sell "long guns," which include rifles, to anyone 18 and older, under federal law, with most states having similar age restrictions, according to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

Gun legislation has stalled for years in Congress. In 2013, the Senate failed to pass legislation that would have expanded background checks, despite Democrats controlling the chamber at that time.

Senate Republicans also signaled in the wake of a shooting at a concert in Las Vegas last year that they would be open to banning "bump stocks"—a device that can simulate automatic gunfire with a semi-automatic weapon. But legislation targeting those devices has since stalled.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said during a committee hearing this week that he, Feinstein and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) would get together to discuss the issue.

NO! You are wrong. You will be taking the RIGHT to vote out of every military person aged 18-20 years and 364 days on voting day. THAT was one thing that I took very seriously when I was in the military. I was voting for MY Commander in Chief. Every military person has a right to vote for his or her commander. Since you have to be 18 to be in the military, then every, EVERY 18, 19 and 20 year old HAS A RIGHT to vote for their Commander, period!!!

I don't have a problem with this; I think there are some things the Republicans could do like this that would take the wind out of the dems sails. The dems want the republicans to refuse these type things so they can use it for their campaign ads. The Republicans should go on the offensive with reasonable laws and make the dems vote. They do not want new laws they need the wedge issue like DACA.

Feinstein - a burned out old liberal hag who is a true democrat right to the leftist marrow in her brittle old bones.

In any gun related tragedy (excluding Chicago, Baltimore or other democrat plantations) democrats like Feinstein jump into action.
They are as reliable as any well programmed government zombie in North Korea and other communist utopias.

We see them climbing on top of the still warm and falling bodies of the victims to push their leftist agendas, especially anti-2nd amendment.

Why haven’t we heard her whining about the connection between behavior changing, mind altering drugs and mass shooters?

Why haven’t we heard her sobbing and emoting about the shootings and crime stats in Chicago and other democrat ghetto plantations?

CHICAGO CRIME STATS - Month of February 2018 to Date:
Shot & Killed: 16
Shot & Wounded: 54
Total Shot: 70
Total Homicides: 21

CHICAGO CRIME STATS - 2018 to Date:
Shot & Killed: 52
Shot & Wounded: 227
Total Shot: 279
Total Homicides: 62

CHICAGO CRIME STATS - This Week (2/11 – 2/17)
Shot & Killed: 3
Shot & Wounded: 28
Total Shot: 31
Total Homicides: 6

Of course, last night being Friday night, this data is no doubt already out of date by now.

"How about a background check and voter Id before you can Vote"

Absolutely.

Any federal law that addresses judgment, rights and responsibilities with respect to age and identity verification should also include the right to vote.

Yep they’re the ones who made kids adults. We have plenty of 16 year olds I’d trust with my life. They aren’t liberals.

You know...I wouldn’t have a problem with voting, gun-purchasing, alcohol-purchasing and conscription age all being 21. I’ve got a feeling that this would be a no-go for the Democrats.

My humble guess is that Trump will play this well...saying sure...toss all four of these into the same bucket, with a waiver possible for kids to join the military before 21, if their parents sign off. But to accomplish this, you’d have to go and amend the Constitution on the voting age. Zero chance that this will occur.

Surely she is ok with raising the age to 21 for having abortions.

Typical band-aid reaction when the problem has less to do with guns/rifles and more to do with the lack of mental health treatment.

In the case of the recent Florida shooter, he had been on the radar for years, police had been called to the home nearly 40 times, fellow students previously remarked that he would be one likely to perform a mass school shooting, school officials were aware of him, and even the FBI had been notified — but apparently ignored any real follow-up.

Another asinine feel-good law is not the solution.

When Mr. b was first a deputy sheriff, he couldn’t buy ammo for his issued weapon because he was underage. He could use ammo the department purchased though.

Change the Voting Age to 21 and I might agree with it.

The 18-20 Year Old Voters do more damage to the 330,000,000 Citizens of the United States of America than people with Rifles.

That being said, I owned a .22 Rifle and a .410 Shotgun when I was eight years old. My older Brother took his .22 Rifle to School when he was in the Gun Club.

They had a shooting range in the Basement.

Neither of us have killed as many People as Ted Kennedy.

I acquired my first gun at the age of 13. My father gave it to me. Now I’m almost 69 and have multiple guns. I inherited or was given each of them.

Is this a States Rights issue? If the federal government can legislate the age of which it is legal to purchase a certain type of firearm, how is it then that a state can regulate the types and calibers of firearms and firearms accessories that a citizen can possess? This goes directly to the viable enforcement of the “Federal” law called the Constitution, in particularly, the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Do states have the legal authority to override parts of Constitutional Law that said authority is not expressly granted to the state’s in the Constitution?

She does this every time there is a shooting. Her bill goes directly to committee to die a natural death. :-)

It was determined by the DemoRats years ago that 18 year old could vote....now they question it....the voting age should be 25 and have a job or own property in the USA....otherwise your a nobody. Think about it....if 19 is a child and 26 your still on your parents insurance....YOU JUST A CHILD.
