Life sentences for Turkish journalists is "criminalizing journalism" - the U.S.

"The United States is troubled by the life sentences handed down to 6 journalists and media employees in Turkey, including Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan and Nazli Ilicak" the State Department official told Ahval in an email statement.

A Turkish court gave life sentences to six people, including former newspaper editor Ahmet Altan, his brother, columnist and economist Mehmet Altan, and well-known journalist, Nazli Ilıcak, after convicting them of being the media wing of an Islamist sect the government says carried out the July 2016 failed coup attempt.

The U.S. official stated that these are "extraordinary sentences" and "appear to be another example of the Turkish authorities criminalizing journalism under the state of emergency in order to discourage the free expression of viewpoints critical of the government."

Freedom House's project director Nate Schenkkan on Friday: "we are seeing people given life sentences now because basically the government has decided now that it doesn't like them.”

Does this sound like where Obama was taking the US.

Note: the article I posted the excerpt from is by a Kemalist paper inside Turkey. This is as close as it gets to news within Turkey. All else is total propaganda.

Remember the March between Ankara and Istanbul? Where 1 million citizens gathered behind the banner "Adalet" ("Justice" in Turkish). No one was arrested then? smile.

Funny, our so-called “journalists” in this country accuse Trump of doing the same thing.

Looks like the major media (ABC,NBC,CBS,CNN, MSNBC,NPR...) would all fit like a glove, if the Turkish government were in charge here in the USA.

I could handle watching some of our own professional liars swing from a rope for inciting riots that get innocent people killed.

Yes, they subvert the current US president.

In Turkey’s case? It is likely the “coup” in Turkey was planned by Erdogan to solidify his control. It he did plan it, it was successful in destroying the country.

That “coup” was Erdogan’s “Reichstag Fire”

“Now they are Press-titutes.....”

Whadda ya mean now? The media has been a gun for hire with the libs for over two centuries here. The Turks just decided not to have a democracy. So they put journalists that don’t do what they say in the same category as hardened criminals. Not real different from here and bad publicity will ruin their sales. We just don’t arrest ours. Time for another Executive Order.

Yes, very likely.

And my gut tells me that Brennan may have had a hand in planning the target list of plotters.

We have the tools to do that. And Brennan is an Islamist convert. I have no evidence of it, but that does not mean I am wrong about his involvement.

Reporters were never the ones benefiting from twisting reality in articles.

The publishing companies did.

With the Advent of Fusion GPS, it went directly to the people writing the articles and total lies were marketed as news.

Hence, the advent of Press-titutes.

Sorry, but until they stop conspiring to overthrow Trump in this country, it’s hard for me to give ‘journalists’ the benefit of the doubt, even when facing dictators like in Turkey or Russia.

For all I know, they were trying to OVERTHROW their governments, by publishing lie after lie to turn people against their leaders. They’re certainly doing it here.

I understand.

What I’ve posted today about Erdogan is not a lie. But you probably knew that.

Yea, I figure in Turkey’s case, that’s true. For Putin, I’m not so sure the media is not trying to undermine him. He’s a lot like Trump in the sense that he makes Russians proud to be Russians - and if their media is anything like ours, those are FIGHTING WORDS and a call to overthrow.

Journalists who lie to and mislead the people should be punished without mercy.

No, I don’t think Russian media is like ours. Putin is not like Erdogan the Islamist, but he can rally support among Russian media.

Russia is not like the West. Probably never will be.

But for that matter the EU is purely a bureaucrat setup. Socialism hiding much deeper leftist underpinning. Their media defends the leftist position faithfully. It is their replacement for religion.

“Reporters were never the ones benefiting from twisting reality in articles.”

Disagree. They are the first ones to get credit for “breaking” a story and many have been identified as noteable “stars” within their own. Over the years people like Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, Peter Jennings, Harry Reasoner, Roger Mudd, John Cameron Swayze, John Chancellor and Edward R. Newman were so trusted that anything they said was to be trusted as gospel.

But the days of responsible journalism are almost past. Many over the last few years have been caught in lies to either protect people or create a false front of news. Juan Thompson, Brian Williams, Bill O’Reilly, Rachel Maddow, Jason Blair, Mike Tobin, Shaun Hannity, Jonathon Carl, Lara Logan, Anna Kooiman, Ed Shultz, Bob Woodward, Steve Doocey, Mika Brzezinski......see a pattern here? Over the last 10 years these “reporter” have been caught lying to the public. Notice the list is a lot longer than the trusted ones in our history. And this isn’t all of them. I didn’t even start to get into the ones that protected the Clintons over the last 30 years from Bill’s lies over sex to Hilary’s over Benghazi or her computer. And if you think Bill was bad as president, you should read his record as governor of Arkansas.

And almost everyone of the people I mentioned above were or are still noted “stars” for their networks. Oh, I won’t count sports commentators even though they delve in it also.

And every one of the people and their lies were to protect someone or create a false impression of someone or something.

Reporters have always benefited from the news. And the better they make it sound, whether it’s true or not, the more they get paid and the more famous they get.

In reality these guys and gals are a dime a dozen. The amount of accredited specialty colleges that offer a degree in journalism includes 109 accredited schools in the US, including one in Chile. And that is just the special schools which wouldn’t cover the major or secondary universities or colleges. There are literally thousands of degrees posted each semester. So it you don’t think their presentation is not an important part of their keeping a job along with their adherence to staying within network policy, then you haven’t noticed the revolving door with networks.

you should read his record as governor of Arkansas.

I was a regional sales manager for a wholesale company for quite a few years. In the beginning I had 16 sales people. 4 worked in AR. I spent a lot of time there in the sales support role. Knew many businessmen there. Got a first hand education from them about the marvelous adventures of Hill And Bill. The businessmen absolutely hated them.

I was in Mena, AR many times. We had a lumberyard customer that lived outside of town. After he got to know me and trust me he told me how things really were there. I know about Hill and Bill.
