An activist group has launched a voter registration effort aimed at black voters at screenings of the Black Panther movie nationwide.
Members of the Electoral Justice Project, an offshoot of the Movement for Black Lives, are seeking to mobilize the black electorate and increase political engagement with the #WakandaTheVote campaign, the website Blavity reported.
Wakanda is the fictional African nation featured in the long-anticipated Marvel film Black Panther.
Kayla Reed, Jessica Byrd and Rukia Lumumba founded the Electoral Justice Project last year, and told Blavity that the movement has been effective because we meet our communities where they are, whether that's in the streets, at the city council meeting, or in the movie theater.
"This weekend we wanted to meet our people in Wakanda," Byrd and Reed told Blavity. We know that for some it's a superhero world, but we know that the world we deserve is still waiting to be built and we want to build it.
The projects website notes that volunteers will be wearing Wakanda inspired outfits to help moviegoers register to vote.
Byrd and Reed told Blavity that they plan to further their efforts ahead of the 2018 midterm elections by holding a campaign manager institute called the Electoral Justice League, and to have thousands of conversations with black voters about upcoming elections.
We want to take every opportunity to engage our communities in the conversation of electoral justice, they said
I was looking forward to seeing a good movie. Could not have cared less about the races of the actors involved. Now it is political? Screw you racist BLM scum.
What’s funny is that Blade is a Marvel Comic movie that came out exactly 20 years ago (quite possibly, the first Marvel movie to ever come out in the mainstream) and it’s star was Wesley Snipes. Not a peep about race then
Sounds like the same Plot as the Eddie Murphy Movie “Coming to America”.
Young Black Prince from a Mythical African Nation that sells “something” that makes them so much Money that it’s a Paradise.
All that’s missing is James Earl Jones and a knock off McDonalds.
Im growing weary of the never ending Wakanda meddling in American elections!
Waiting for national news networks to scratch the surface of black nationalists/black separatists and their attempts to influence the 2018 midterm elections.
Will candidates deny the campaign contributions from such donors?
Go to their table and register. File a complaint when YOUR application is “lost” before election day.
Hollywood movies never show a net profit.

The Money Quote...
“The petition asks for Marvel to invest 25 percent of its worldwide profit in black communities and programs within these communities that focus on S.T.E.M educational programs.”
Someone needs to explain to the author of the petition that a STEM degree has limited value unless you are an elite student.
If you are an average American STEM grad, you are instantly competing with foreign OPT students who can work in the USA for almost 3 years after graduation.
After that, you are competing with foreign H-1Bs.
The OPTs and the H-1Bs are all chasing Green Cards, which means they will outwork you AND accept lower pay.
And they are a minority. Most aborted kids in NY-50 percent.Horrible.Some are telling whites on twitter no go see.
When your sense of self-worth is dependent on the success of a superhero movie, you got problems. Theyre acting like this trifle is a watershed moment in black history.
Silly me. I thought we were all supposed to be color blind and nudged by the content of our character.
I am often nudged by the content of my character.
I thought this wasnt about race?
I was there. My parents insisted that I treat everyone the same. Then I got older and decade after decade marched on. There were times I was curious about the “black experience”. I would take advantage of situations that allowed me interaction with Black folks. I got along with the many Black folks I had met.
It wasn’t until after Obama was elected that I learned just how much the Blacks hate me.
Anymore, I don’t trust any Black until they have proven themselves worthy of my trust.
There are some Blacks on FR that I have respected for several years and still do.
Maybe I am racist now, many folks seem to want me to be. It probably doesn’t matter because I am 69 and on my way out....I think I am too old to keep changing.
Original black panther comic book character was white in a black suit just think of the uproar if hollyweed followed that
Wait a minute!!!! they already have a superhero, BARAK OBAMA
I was talking to my teens about race relations, and was surprised that after all the propaganda they were of the opinion that blacks have no interest in discussing race, only accusing and spouting hate. I’ve gone to great lengths to let them form their own opinions on this, confident they’d eventually see the truth, and was pleasantly surprised that they’ve known for years.
Give the blacks their very own super hero and they politicize him on opening night.
What, exactly, did you expect?
