The sole electricity plant in the Gaza Strip stopped working Thursday because of a lack of fuel, officials said, as concerns grew over worsening humanitarian conditions in the Hamas-controlled area.
The closure of the plant, which normally provides around a fifth of Gaza's electricity, will exacerbate an already critical power shortage.
Gaza's two million residents receive only around four hours of mains electricity a day, a situation for which they blame Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.
Hamas leaders enjoy electricity 24 hours a day. However, they refuse to invest international aid monies in infrastructure for Gaza's residents, preferring instead to invest in terror tunnels, rockets, and mortars, intended for use against Israeli civilians.
Despite Hamas' attacks on Israeli civilians, and the fact that Gaza is no longer Israel's responsibility, Israel is set to increase the electricity supply to Gaza.
Mohammed Thabet, spokesman for Gaza's energy distribution company, said it had been informed by the energy authority the power station stopped functioning at midnight because of the lack of fuel.
Usually the plant provides around 20 megawatts per day using fuel imported from Egypt, but now the only energy available in the Strip is the roughly 120 megawatts of electricity imported from Israel.
"The Gaza Strip needs around 500 megawatts (per day). We have an energy deficit of 380 megawatts," Thabet said.

Iran maybe
So, the only GAZA power is the 120 MW provided by Israel. No doubt used to light the tunnels, run their ventilators, and run the cement machines to build new ones.
If only there was a way to live at peace and prioritize funding for the important things...like electricity.
I feel bad for the few there that don’t support terrorism, destruction of Israel, etc.
I talked with a Pali 20 years ago and said that everyone who wanted peace had aleady moved out of Gaza. Not a good development.
I’ll bet that the Gaza “authorities” are still making cash payments to the relatives of suicide bombers/attackers ...
If the Hamas phuckwits spent a modest portion of the money they’ve extorted from the world on, you know, fuel for their power plant, rather than on digging and lighting terror tunnels, buying weapons and bombs, paying the families of suicide mass murderers and (of course) fattening up their own Swiss bank accounts, then MAYBE the lights might be on in Gaza.
The faithful want to return the world to the seventh century A.D. So why should they have electrical service?
Ok. That’s a thread winner, right there...
Sell the $50 million Pali plane.
Isn’t electricity use a cultural appropriation?
Only provide the hot wire.
“The faithful want to return the world to the seventh century A.D. So why should they have electrical service?”
Yes, and back then, they burned camel $hit, so let’s help them get back to their “roots,” and have Israel cut off the power then send into Gaza.
“Only provide the hot wire.”
You mean the neutral is the bare foot of the Pali electric consumer.
I guess that Israel now controls the light switch for Gaza, if they ever choose to turn it off.
Individuals can run a generator (if they have fuel), but the pumps for the water supply usually run off the electric grid.
Who cares? Maybe one of the pali billionaires can help out.
Perhaps they could try loading the hopper with screws and nails and ball bearings. They’re well stocked with those.
The humiliation!
