Sounds like Cruz wants the status quo as much as the Dems do.
Cruz is right. The gop can kiss off its majority if trump voters stay home.
Cruz is not meant to be President but can do a lot of good as Senator.
Trump’s 12 year plan will work. It lets these people do their own sorting... who stays, who goes...for example:
The lie is that all Mexicans are ‘hard working’... the truth is 74% of Mexican ‘immigrants’ receive some form of welfare. The lie is they’re ‘law biding’ - the truth is they overwhelm our court systems and prisons.
With 12 years to sort themselves out we WILL get the cream of the crop - and the rest of them will be sent home. Trump says “no crimes, no welfare, must be employed, must speak english”...for 12 years.

Nobody has ever made a compelling case to me why these immigrants from Mexico ought to be treated any differently than immigrants from anywhere else.
I'm 100% with you Jaz... Trump has nothing to lose by using his veto pen. This is his issue to do right... he knows the right place to compromise and the right places to hold firm.
On the level of moral and ethical purity you are 100% right. They should be treated the same... Absolutely.
But, in the real world of dealing with corrupt evil liberal 'elites' who would destroy our country if they could - - it takes more strategy than just being totally right on the issue.

Disliking Cruz doesn’t make what he says about losing the base with stupidity about amnesty isn’t true.
1.8M vs the Wall, end of chain migration and the visa lottery is a good trade off to me. Leaves the other 11-20M eligible for immediate deportation. Next step would be federal requirement of e-verify!
