The Rob Porter domestic abuse scandal is more than just another bout of bad publicity for the White House. It's an actual dilemma that leaves President Donald Trump with no great options, only differing levels of bad choices.
But every sensible choice includes chief of staff John Kelly leaving the White House.
The key is what Kelly knew about the evidence of Porter's domestic abuse record, when he knew it, and what he did about it when he did know it.
That leaves Kelly stepping down quietly and the president not commenting about it as the least bad scenario. It's still not going to look good for a White House staff that seems to be in constant chaos and flux. But the appearance of a White House organization in disarray is still preferable to what comes off as a lack of decency and tolerance for damning evidence of domestic abuse, not to mention serious security lapses.
This is indeed a real scandal for the Trump administration. Real damage has been done and more will come. But what the president does next will determine just how serious that damage will be.

Was domestic abuse charges part of the divorces? Or are these women being used by the deep state?
Kind of hard to ignore the story when the damn Republicans “open an investigation” into how this happened.
Sometimes I get depressed, feel it’s too late to save the country when an effective majority of Congress is with the Democrats.
My opinion is that Jake Novak can GFH.
The WH should dump acting AG Rod Rosenstein for signing off on the bogus dossier, to spy on the WH.
Leave Kelly alone.
Get Jeff (Flat-Tire) Sessions out asap.
That is what needs doing!!
BS. We all know whats going on here. The Libtards are trying their best to pick-off the Trump team one by one. They’re doing it to Hope Hicks at the same time going for a TWO-FER..
Good grief! You’d think Rob Porter had sold uranium to Russia ...or something! Beating his wife is NOT narional security!!!
Still fail to see how this is an “issue”, “matter”, “scandal”, etc. Guy punched his wife, got fired. What story? They got NOTHING!
My question is, how do we know these women aren’t lying or exaggerating the facts? Because we all know that some women lie in divorce situations. This is beyond frustrating.
Honestly, I pulled my skin out of the game in 2008, when I bought my small farm in central KY. I moved there from Seattle in 2011.
This life, for me, is very much just The Matrix, and from a Christian perspective. This is Satan’s world. Nothing should surprise you. But those that are Christs are protected. And no, I don’t mean their flesh. Life is a mist.
It should ... but likely won’t until the next shiny distracting anti-Trump news story comes along ... I tend to have Fox Business on while I work and good grief one after the other report had to do with this stupid Porter story ... I am so sick and tired of Judge Nap, Neil Cavuto and the other Never Trumpers on Fox.
Kelly didnt hit his wife or anybody elses - he should stay right where he is. The enemies in the media hate the exceptional job Kelly is doing and are bleating at phantoms to try to get him removed.
If this is all they have on him, I’m happy. I hope it stays on top for a long time.
Kelly was always the real target. Trump wont fire him or accept his resignation.
.
Trump would have to be insane to dump Kelly!
When did “inocent until proven guilty” get abolished?
.
A month from now: Porter who?.....................
