Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has rejected a Congressional map proposal submitted to him Friday by the state's top Republican legislative leaders.
Wolf said by his team's analysis, the GOP proposal does not meet his standards for fairness.
"The analysis by my team shows that, like the 2011 map, the map submitted to my office by Republican leaders is still a gerrymander," the governor said in a statement. "Their map clearly seeks to benefit one political party, which is the essence of why the court found the current map to be unconstitutional."

As expected. PA Supremes and Wolf illegally attempting to draw a map to disenfranchise the GOP majority in the state.
And Wolf is what party? Dumbocrat, RINO, GROPelite, or presidential candidate looking for a TV camera?
Rat party.
Wolf’s a Democrat ... and there is no way in hell he will be a serious candidate for the Presidency. He sucks. I doubt he’ll get reelected running against even a “somewhat-decent” Republican candidate.
File the lawsuit to invalidate ANY map drawn by the PA Supreme Court. Clearly legislating from the bench. No court in the land has the right to draw legislative districts. It’s entirely a function of the legislative branch. With any luck it’ll get to the SCOTUS by Summer.
“File the lawsuit to invalidate ANY map drawn by the PA Supreme Court.”
The GOP already filed lawsuits against the PA Supreme Court and lost. This already went to the SCOTUS too ... they didn’t want to take the case as they felt it should be handled at the state level.
That’s nice but, it is the legislators who draw the districts...
Seriously, I dont know how the GOP got away with it this long. I live 10 minutes from center city Harrisburg, but my congressional district is this long thin corridor that reaches out from Allentown. It is really bizarre.
I think this is opening a big can of worms. The general public is now fairly educated over the process and understand how it’s so slanted.
I think the Supremes will have to step in and order that you can only draw along county lines that already exist. Once you force that....the gerrymandering will dissolve away.
Solution:
A computer draws the smallest possible perimeters with equal numbers of people.
Gee! I could do it on my little Mac Pro.
Simple! Done!
Nothing to “get away with.” As long as the district lines contain a similar number of persons and the two VRA (Voting Rights Act) districts in Philadelphia are preserved, the Republicans are free to draw the districts as they see fit. The Democrats took advantage of gerrymandering for eons without interference, but when the GOP draws the lines, all hell breaks loose.
The PA Supremes, a partisan Democrat court, has no standing to order new lines and doesn’t like that the GOP drew lines to (gasp !) elect Republicans and wants the Democrat minority to have a majority of seats. THAT is what should not be gotten away with, period.
Corralling all the scum in a few districts is not “bizarre”. Harriburg and Allentown are full of scum who belong together.
What ultimately happens, court draws the maps when no agreement can be reached?
must not split counties or cities unless population requires that.
Hey! Thanks, Dude! Didnt realize I was considered scum!
The Democrat cities of Harrisburg and Allentown were not combined into a RAT vote sink in either the 2012 GOP redistricting plan or the 2018 GOP proposal. It would be stupid for the GOP to have done so, since there is so much GOP turf in between those two cities.
The judges will now appoint a “special master” to draw a Democrat gerrymander, far more partisan than the 2018 GOP proposal, and will certify the map. Hopefully, President Trump will get to replace Kennedy or Ginsburg in the next few years and, at that point, the PA legislature can sue in federal court to reclaim its right under the U.S. Constitution to draw congressional districts; SCOTUS shamefully ruled in the Arizona case from two years ago that the word “legislature” in the Constitution could mean voter initiatives or other things that are not the state legislature, but it was a 5-4 vote with Kennedy joining the liberals, so we can get that reversed if Kennedy or Ginsburg get replaced by a conservative who knows how to read.
My latest voter registration #s, posted on my twitter feeed:
PA Rs +84,000 net from Nov. 2016 (no real change from Dec. 17) but Ds -250,000 since 2012
AZ Rs +16knet, absolutely up 23k since Nov. 2016
Yup. I said the legislature should draw up articles of impeachment against the PA Supremes. This is a coup d’état. I’m floored Alito didn’t toss this madness.
