Chinese spies are spreading throughout the United States as part of a whole-of-society threat, FBI Director Christopher Wray told lawmakers Tuesday.
The problem is exacerbated by the naivete of U.S. academics who dont recognize the intelligence collectors among them.
Theyre exploiting the very open research-and-development environment that we have, which we all revere, but theyre taking advantage of it, he said. So, one of the things were trying to do is view the China threat as not just a whole-of-government threat but a whole-of-society threat on their end and I think its going to take a whole of-society response by us.
The use of academic spies and education programs that U.S. officials regard as part of a plan to influence American public opinion are outgrowths of a long-term plan to facilitate Chinese power, they agreed. A major CIA research project, published for public consumption in 2015, concluded that Chinese foreign policy is a running a hundred-year marathon to displace the United States as a superpower by mid-century.

“not just a whole-of-government threat but a whole-of-society threat on their end and I think its going to take a whole of-society response by us.”
Oh my, all of society needs to mobilize against an external enemy again. Why does this seem familiar? Oh wait...because this is the non-stop prattle of every despot on earth.
Georgia Tech student Chinese population, >10% ?
Emory > 10%
MIT > 20%
1985 Goodyear Aerospace factory hosted Chinese visitors who toured confidential fuel tank and bomb ballut manufacturing facilities. Reverse engineered everything.
The Clintons moved technology sales from the defense department to state because the DOD kept refusing to approve the deals.

Meanwhile the USA Government removed prohibitions on directing propaganda at American citizens, cooperated with youtube and FB, and twitter, and the MSM, and sprays us with a veritable firehose of liquid bullshit like we were an Iowa farm field.
DC and CIA complaining someone is trying to influence US opinion. How do they not burst into flames of hypocrisy right on the spot?
Not surprised they joke about it.....hopefully with one eye open.
Hence the gaslighting from Wray about China.
These people take turns doing this crap.
Sorry but they are a threat.....lots of kickbacks are paid to them to come here.
Well lets trust Trumps long time awareness of this threat for years and sounding the alarm during his run will find some restrictions along the way sufficient to protect us. I don’t think it’s too late....yet
....”Most academics today would/do gladly give them anything”.....
Seriously I think you’re absolutely right. People will do anything if enough cash passes their hands.
BOTH!
Oh I believe they are.
I’m also sure the ones in the FBI that covered for Hillary are basically just as big a threat.
They intended for it to be an operation of The Clinton Foundation.
Asian American advocates were outraged by Wrays call I understand....... We cannot have every Chinese student or scientist assumed guilty until proven innocent”....blah blah blah.....
I’m telling ya... When the Chinese hosted the Olympics in Beijing.. While watching their opening ceremony.. I had a sinking feeling that we could be in deep trouble. Their discipline and machine-like precision looked unmatchable.. Freakin’ scary.
Woops! Asians activists already protesting...perhaps too soon and too much......rather than be grateful....
His remarks only further insinuates that Chinese and Chinese Americans continue to be treated racially profiled as perpetual foreigners in the intelligence community, the statement continued.
And Jason Li, who heads Stanfords Asian American Students Association, also criticized the comments.
We strongly denounce Director Wrays comments, which fall in line with a long history of targeting, vilifying, and scapegoating immigrants under the cloak of national security, he said in a statement. International students are our friends, our colleagues, and our family...This overreach of national security harms our communities, and we condemn Wrays statements in our fight against racial profiling and discrimination.
OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates, a group that works on issues related to Asian American and Pacific Islanders, said in a statement that they found Wrays comments dishonest and insulting.
It is dangerous and irresponsible for him to accuse many individuals seeking a higher education, or to contribute to their field of study, of spying, the statement said.

...” naiveté” of U.S academics ...
Who knew ?
How could this happen ?
There are no existential threats; right, egghead IDIOTS ?
I’ve always been concerned about a scary dream I had years ago.. It was of Asian-looking soldiers sneaking up to my window in the dead of night. Yikes!
And you're right ..it's creepy!....They keep the population entertained in a rather juvenile way. Even this male starlit had difficulty adjusting to how they depicted him as a teenager rather than the 22 yr. old he is.
It's really weird to be sure.
Obviously the proChinaFirst spies doth protest too much.
China has an arrogance about themselves.....I’ve run into a few and their degree of ‘organized/collective’ thinking is something to behold....
