Chinese spies are spreading throughout the United States as part of a whole-of-society threat, FBI Director Christopher Wray told lawmakers Tuesday.
The problem is exacerbated by the naivete of U.S. academics who dont recognize the intelligence collectors among them.
Theyre exploiting the very open research-and-development environment that we have, which we all revere, but theyre taking advantage of it, he said. So, one of the things were trying to do is view the China threat as not just a whole-of-government threat but a whole-of-society threat on their end and I think its going to take a whole of-society response by us.
The use of academic spies and education programs that U.S. officials regard as part of a plan to influence American public opinion are outgrowths of a long-term plan to facilitate Chinese power, they agreed. A major CIA research project, published for public consumption in 2015, concluded that Chinese foreign policy is a running a hundred-year marathon to displace the United States as a superpower by mid-century.

There are probably more Chinese spies in California than any other state!
The FBI should shut down the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, then.
The Chinese view their government as an emergent expression of their own beliefs and values....Their Gov’t is not a threatening separate entity from its citizens that they feel the need to be protected from, but a conduit through which the public can enact ideas and change for the betterment of their “collective” society.
Some think this is why the US deems their population a threat:...that we cannot match their capability if our gov’t and citizenry are eternally at each other’s throats.
The FBI is a greater threat to this country than the Chinese, IMO.
I work at a major research university in a department that actively looks for research sponsors, and it’s an open joke about the Chinese officers. Pretty much everybody presumes that they receive some kind of kick back from the home office. About a quarter of our fees paid from worldwide companies are from China.
Easy fix, 20 YEAR IMMIGRATION MORATORIUM...
There are upscale housing communities where I live with NOTHING BUT CHINESE and probably MOSTLY Chinese nationals who are allowed to BUY PROPERTY HERE OF COURSE (ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE BY AMERICA).
And what percentage of employees here (especially in the defense and aerospace industries) who are Chinese and also ACTIVELY SPYING FOR THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT?
No China, too close to the Clintons.
Chinese spies. Check.
Russian hacking. Check.
Macedonian hackers. Check.
Cover for Hillary. Check.
(not all of the FBI, but some....)
US foreign policy and trade policies (and immigration policies) that have led to the enrichment and empowerment of China will prove to be one of the worst mistakes in our history. And few will admit it until it will probably be too late.
“The problem is exacerbated by the naivete of U.S. academics who dont recognize the intelligence collectors among them”.
Most academics today would/do gladly give them anything.
Those FBI guys, 25 years later, they catch right on to these things. Very snappy.
I have noticed that a lot of the south east Asians and east Asians tend to date and marry white guys. Zuckerburg (No I don’t revere him) included.
Nice of our government to finally recognize the threat - considering that it’s been going on for DECADES.
Distraction.
My relative in military intel attended the UT Austin graduation and
Freaked out about the number of potential spies at the University .
Daddy?
Why do their jets look like ours?
“...Chinese nationals who are allowed to BUY PROPERTY HERE...”
Lots of high-rise construction in Los Angeles (luxury apts and condos) now. I’m told that most if not all is Chinese funded.
