I work at a major research university in a department that actively looks for research sponsors, and it’s an open joke about the Chinese officers. Pretty much everybody presumes that they receive some kind of kick back from the home office. About a quarter of our fees paid from worldwide companies are from China.
Not surprised they joke about it.....hopefully with one eye open.
