Artificial intelligence could be "billions of times smarter" than humans and people may need to merge with computers to survive, a futurist told CNBC on Tuesday.
Speaking on a panel hosted by CNBC at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Futurizon's Ian Pearson's comments mirrored ideas put forward by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Humans are already way smarter than the media.
“Futurists” are not expert in anything, and this one is truly an idiot.
RUR. Google it. I ain’t worried.
Seeing that half the country always vote for the Dumocrats....that shouldn’t be a tall feat.....
Have a computer watch a simple board game being played and have the computer no nothing about the rules or how to win. See how long it takes for the computer to pick up the basics.
I’m billions of times smarter than a moth. Does moths need to “merge” with me in order to survive?
LOL..
The left is already doing the merge.
AI is pure logic. The only way to merge with it is to become pure irrational emotion, the compliment of rational logic.
Just as two poles of a magnet the same repel, two poles of consciousness the same repel.
“I aint worried.”
You and Alfred E. Newman.
Transhumanists want you to die.
If so, expect lying, hatred, self-piety, etc.
Unless the BIOS has the Ten Commandments in the firmware, expect trouble.
Billions? Wow - that’s a lot!
Like, I know my car door is open. Because I just opened it!
AI makes great sensors, great manipulators of data, and an effective watchstanding compliment. Just don’t hook the damn things up for weapon systems as launch capable.
We can as a species, postulate all we want but we really do not know what the future holds. One gigantic coronal mass ejection will and could very effectively dismantle our computerized infrastructure. Any natural disaster for that matter.
We should always maintain a level headed approach to technology but should not rely on it. You can be shovel ready all you want but if you do not have the physicality to actually shovel out a grave then what good is even that technology?
AI is a machine. It’s just a data search & evaluation process.
I’ve no need to “merge” with AI any more than I need to “merge” with my car (which is a machine that can move orders of magnitude faster/farther than I can).
AI will help us figure out more complex information faster, but there nothing there to anthropomorphize.
...and if anyone is aware of “merging” with a machine it’s me. I am literally a cyborg. My heart function is augmented by machine & computer, but that doesn’t make it - nor me - any more/less “human”.
The Bible tells the account of ancient humans who had the bright idea of building a tower leading to heaven, because they thought they were smarter than God. (Genesis 11)
If computers are so smart, then why are they so easily fooled by those “ I am not a robot” verification buttons?
It doesn’t matter how “smart” AI is... “smart” meaning processing power.
What matters is conscious awareness. I don’t see that happening.
“Im billions of times smarter than a moth. Does moths need to merge with me in order to survive?”
What do you do when a moth flies into your house?
Lets say AI is only 1000X smarter than humans. There is no way to program morality, compassion, or the value of life into a computer. There is no way to implement “Asimov’s rules” into a machine. A self aware infinitely intelligent computer that can program itself makes up its own morality based on its best interests not ours. There is simply no way to control something 1000x smarter than you. When it decides we have no value or are a threat (bith highly likely) it will terminate that threat in the most efficient way it can devise. We wont stand a chance against machines that are stronger, faster, smarter, require no food, rest, sleep, and are virtually indestructable. I’m not advocating merging with them, I am saying we should think very carefully before we go down this road.
Why are they prone to intermittent crash?
