New York Times print products may last another 10 years, says the company's CEO, Mark Thompson.
As the company continues to build its digital presence, it will re-evaluate the demand for print, Thompson says.
Meanwhile, the company added 157,000 new digital subscriptions in the last quarter of 2017.

The newspaper printing presses may have another decade of life in them, New York Times CEO Mark Thompson told CNBC on Monday.
"I believe at least 10 years is what we can see in the U.S. for our print products," Thompson said on "Power Lunch." He said he'd like to have the print edition "survive and thrive as long as it can," but admitted it might face an expiration date.
"We'll decide that simply on the economics," he said. "There may come a point when the economics of [the print paper] no longer make sense for us."
"The key thing for us is that we're pivoting," Thompson said. "Our plan is to go on serving our loyal print subscribers as long as we can. But meanwhile to build up the digital business, so that we have a successful growing company and a successful news operation long after print is gone."

The State newspaper can’t shutter their doors soon enough to suit me.
If they really cared about the environment they would stop printing now!
Hypocrites.
“Meanwhile, the company added 157,000 new digital subscriptions in the last quarter of 2017.”
And of course, no word about how many paper subscriptions the company has lost. The lying media couldn’t report any simple fact without lying.
That’s 10 years too long.
Journalism is already all but dead thanks to the Times and others.
Printing of newspapers is a separate matter.
Oh what will the fish vendors and bird owners do now?
That’s WAAAAY too long. The Democrat media is busy committing suicide and will not last through President Trump’s two terms.
And then they can wipe the historical records when Democrats say hypocritical things or a fake news forger is exposed.
The local rag costs $2.00 daily, and $4 on Sunday. Not going to pay that to read leftist crap.
Be funny if someone with a white hat hacked the Slimes digital edition and changed everything into the truth.
To think that I used to buy that paper every Sunday up until Bill Clinton became President.Saved a lot of money since then.
Reminds me of dinosaur media death watch...
No ‘young person’ was willingly going to buy old print newspapers to read after about five years ago. Computer, tablet, phones - digital only.
Town Criers Gone!
Bloggers about all left NOW!
THEY’re working on that right now!

Wouldn’t it though.
I would have loved the wun’s teleprompter to have been broken into and the text changed just as he was reading it.
Do people still to this day buy the NY Times with their over sized papers that look like bed sheets when you unfold them? Seems like a lot of work just to read fake news.
Speaking of which, I was cleaning out my attic a few weeks ago and found some old papers, the NY Daily News and NY Post from 1994 and surprise surprise...What was in it? Stories of criminal conduct by the Clinton crime family, Whitewater, Cattlegate. And here we are, 24 years later STILL dealing with the CLinton crime family, still dealing with all their shenanigans the only difference being that Bill is basically an invalid while Hillary is still going full steam ahead causing all kinds of trouble and STILL, 24 years later, not one single solitary prosecutor in this country has the gonads to bring charges against her and finally put an end to this madness. Who would’ve ever though a quarter of a century later we’d still be dealing with her, and this time she went so far as to interfere with a Presidential election, tried to deny the people to a fair election and ho hum, here she is still waltzing around free as a bird.
Yeah, if you go walk by any pretentious coffee shop in Manhattan you will still see some self absorbed nit virtue signaling for all the world while he absorbs every word written by Paul Krugman.
