Text of excerpt:
Barack and Michelle Obamas official portraits were unveiled at the Smithsonians National Portrait Gallery on Monday morning.

I disagree that it is a good painting, given the quality of the artists who should have been in competition to paint the First Lady’s official portrait. This artist could have been a mildly talented high school student for all you could tell from this painting. It’s an embarrassment.

If the grey dog in front of Moochelle only lifted his right hind leg, I would say this was a fabulous portrait.

Yes. It is the same with literature and the other arts.
Dubya called this “The soft bigotry of lowered expectations”.

The picture at the top, showing the contrast differences, kept appearing and disappearing in my browser, while the two retouched pictures of their portraits came in strong and clear.

Shucks, could have saved money by a twofer.
Now that is a portrait that speaks to their true nature and impending judgement.

OK...so Dubya quoted Moynihan, I guess, because it was in a speech of his that I first heard the expression.

I visited Wileys web page. His paintings of Black people get lost in the overwhelming color and too busy backgrounds. Wonder what Sigmond Freud would say?
Environment is to blame?

Better job. A picture of her in the garden with children would have been better. The artists really took some huge leaps in artistic license. Too much of their own style or ego in the paintings.
