Barack and Michelle Obama’s official portraits were unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery on Monday morning.
The former president’s portrait was painted by artist Kehinde Wiley, and the former First Lady chose Baltimore artist Amy Sherald for hers. Wiley and Sherald are the first two African-American artists to ever be commissioned to paint presidential portraits for the museum.

Yes. There were some flattering photos of her. If she were a good, generous, sincere person, her looks would be just fine. But there is such a permascowl attitude on her mug all the time. Which matches what she has said about us. First time she’s ever been proud of America, “all that for a damn flag,” etc. Her character did NOT qualify her for First Lady.
Art teacher called Rush’s show today - said he would have returned both to a student who had done them saying that they lacked proper texture and highlights - I think the artist got the contract for his ideology, not his artistic talent such as it is......
What would happen if the guys that paints Trump’s presidential portrait had previously done a work where a white woman is holding a black head . . . ya think anyone would be upset?

Wouldn’t it be something if Trump issued an EO declaring this to be trashy ghetto art, not worthy of display of a president of the U.S., demeaning to the office, and ordered it to be repainted in a conventional style? That would be SO COOL.
Even Kathy Griffin knows THAT would be a total career killer...

As I was telling a friend of mine, these are paintings, not portraits. It is ridiculous. These could hang in their home, or anywhere else. But, they will never be portraits, which is what are supposed to be in the display. I do not expect anyone in power to say they are inappropriate. That would racist, even though, it isn’t.
I agree they are not portraits.......it would even be a stretch to call them paintings of the sort which would be done for Presidents and first ladies.
Stunningly the Obaas showed again their bad choices.
